LAHORE:

A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed the bail pleas of two men accused of abetting a murder in the sessions court lockup around six weeks ago.

The court was hearing the bail petitions of Hasan, Shaukat, Asif and Mukhtar. It extended the interim bails of Hasan and Shaukat, but dismissed the pleas of Asif and Mukhtar for non-prosecution (meaning they had not turned up for the hearing).

Hasan and Shaukat were directed to appear before the court again on August 15.

On June 30, Muhammad Azam shot and killed Shafqat Nazir in the sessions court lock-up. Azam was later gunned down in a shootout with the police. Both were undergoing murder trials.

In their bail pleas, the petitioners submitted that the police had falsely accused them of helping Azam. They said that they had not helped Azam in any way and asked for bail.
