Health budget: ‘Old hospitals will be upgraded’

BAHAWALPUR:


The government is upgrading several public hospitals, Minister for Prisons Muhammad Iqbal Channar said on Wednesday.


He was speaking to reporters during his visit to the under construction Rs700 million DHQ hospital in Jhangiwala.

He said Rs11.43 million has been approved for the kidney transplant centre at Bahawal Victoria Hospital and that six new operation theatres will be set up at the hospital.

A new emergency unit at the hospital will cost Rs83.4 million, he said.

He said Rs50 million had been allocated for the construction of a heart surgery department at Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

The site engineers told the minister that construction work had entered the final phase.
