TTP threaten Imran Khan over Waziristan march
Talking to the Associated Press on Monday in South Waziristan, a Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan spokesperson Ahsanullah Ahsan had said they would attack Khan because he calls himself a ‘liberal’, a term usually reserved by them for a person lacking religious belief.
The threat comes as a surprise since not only Khan and TTP share their opposition to drone strikes in the region, but the former, one would argue, has demonstrated his religiosity publicly, praying in front of the crowd at his rallies.
Khan too has maintained that he is a liberal and a practicing Muslim. Some of his critics have nicknamed him "Taliban Khan" because of his views and ties with conservative religious parties, who could help him attract right-wing voters in the upcoming general elections.
Ahsan reiterated in the interview that the TTP did not want Khan’s help in opposing drone attacks.
"We will not accept help or sympathy from any infidel,” said Ahsan, referring to Khan. "We can fight on our own with the help of God,” he said, as, ironically, drones flew overhead.
Earlier in July, Khan had announced that he was planning to lead thousands of people in a march to Waziristan in September to protest against the strikes.
A PTI spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment.
Ahsan added that the Taliban considered anyone who participates in elections, even Islamist parties, as infidels and will target them.
"The election process is part of a secular system,” said Ahsan. ”We want an Islamic system and will create hurdles to secularism.”
According to the report, the journalist was taken to where Ahsan was hiding, from a compound in the Shawal area that housed several dozen Taliban fighters armed to the teeth with AK-47s, rocket-propelled grenade launchers and anti-aircraft guns.
Artillery fired by the Pakistani army regularly pounded the ground near the compound.
The military had launched a major operation against the Pakistani Taliban in South Waziristan in 2009 and claimed to have largely cleared the area. However militants regularly launch attacks in the region.
Providing further details, the AP report said that Ahsan had arrived for the interview in a pick-up truck with two other Taliban commanders. He was wearing a white shalwar kameez and a woolen Chitrali cap. He spoke with an assault rifle laid across his lap.
Ahsan and the other commanders fired into the air in celebration at the end of the interview.

Are we surprised by these claims and threats made by the TPP? We should not be… It shows the real face of the terrorists who thrive in intimidating others. We have seen over and over how people who were their supporters and advisors killed brutally and their videos released to the media. Did you forget Col. Imam? Pakistanis should realize that the TTP is the real enemy of peace in the region. When will we bring ourselves to cease this blame game and focus on tackling this menace once and for all? Declare Pakistan a secular state in one stroke and see the effect . Give full freedom to drone attack . Arrest the leaders and supporters of terrorists by the proffessional army of the country in one night and shoot some of them . That has been the official position on militant Taliban factions verbatim in Afghanistan for the last decade. What it is, is a mess. I'll leave it at that. Just got email from TTPspokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan . He said he hadn't stated in interview that we are going to kill #imrankhan. AP misquoted him, He told this journalist that TTP Shura will decide a week before Imran sure arrival and will announce the reaction. he alsos aid that It is sure and clear that we don't have any sympathy with Imran Khan neither we need his sympathy, as he himself claim to be liberal and we seek liberals as Infidels

The main reason for issue of threat by TTP to Imran is due to clash of their common goal ie to rule Pakistan one day. TTP has made its intentions quite clear to enforce Sharia in the whole country and even JuD and Afghan Taleban backs their ideology to achieve this objective. Therefore, PTI became a major obstacle against their(militant organisations) grand design since IK is receiving massive support from the masses and also making statements that militancy would simply disappear from Pakistan once foreign forces leave this region which was much to disliking of TTP and others forcing them issue this warning. IK should take this warning most seriously and his life is in danger in other parts of the country as well. After all two Taleban Khans cannot rule one Pakistan.

You should know that more than 50% of Afghans are not Pashtuns and they HATED the Afghan Taiban rule i 1996-2001. A lot of Pashtuns too hated Afghan Taliban rule - in particular the Pashtun women. SO a majority of Afghans DO NOT consider USA their enemy.
Oh and Afghan Taliban are not fighting for the sake of ordinary Afghans' freedom - who anyway have more freedom now than they did under the Talban rule. They are fighting just to become rulers again and re-implement their cruel regime.

Talibans have no religion, these are individuals born out of ribs of thieves, kidnappers, and terrorist that we allowed to prevail in so called 'illaqu-e-Geer' for many decades - the no men's land. It has been told for years that the Taliban made sanctuaries in Wazristan because the locals took them as their guest and the tribal takes pride in protecting their guest at any cost. Mullah Umer did the same by throwing the whole Afghanistan into a war and never asked his guest to get out of their country nor handed them over to the Americans but instead protected them even if it was at the cost of his country. Lets see if the modern brand of Taliban who proclaims to be the local tribal, respect the Pashtunwali by honoring their guest or they threaten him and forget all the ethical codes of Pushtu.as well as true Islam, if it's not the latest local brand of Islam.then.

although I am not a supporter of Imran (for the record I dont support any politicians as a principle), I hope he remains safe and unhurt. I think no one can argue that Imran is keeping politicians honest and ensuring structural changes that will have huge ramifications in ensuring more democratically elected governments in the future. for example, he is ensuring fake names from voter lists are removed, he moved the SC on campaign finance reforms, etc. just an example of the good he has brought. although I think he will never be a big name in pakistan politics, he can do good and for that i hope he remains safe.
