The administration of Gomal University DI Khan has been forced to take emergency steps to control its financial crisis. The crisis is a result of the unavailability of funds from the Federal Government and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
The university’s Finance Director Haji Muhammad Latif issued a circular on Wednesday, banning all unnecessary expenditures in the university.
According to the circular, a complete ban has been imposed on the purchase of new furniture and computers.
The circular also bans the use of any fund for maintainence and repair as part of its austerity measures.
Gomal University Publicity Officer, Fazlur Rehman, told The Express Tribune that the university administration has taken these steps to control the expenditure and stabilise the financial situation of the university. If the federal government or HEC does not provide sufficient funds, the deficit of the current fiscal year (2011-12) will cross Rs400 million, he added.
