Financial discipline: In G-B, new budgeting system on cards

New system being introduced to ensure financial discipline and effective utilisation of funds, says Finance Minister

Gilgit-Baltistan goernment is introducing performance-based allocation of funds to its departments in the current fiscal year, a cabinet member said.


“The new system is being introduced to ensure financial discipline and effective utilisation of funds,” Finance Minister Mohammad Ali Akhtar said while talking to The Express Tribune on Sunday.

Elaborating on the proposed system, the minister said under the new system every government department will be required to submit quarterly reports in which they will define targets for the period. He said that each department will then be allocated funds based on its performance.

Another official of the ministry said that a computer server has been setup in this regard at G-B’s finance ministry, which is being linked with the The Accountant General Pakistan Revenue (AGPR) office.

He added that from next year onwards, all offices of AGPR and the treasury department in G-B will be linked with this server to maintain budget and expenditure.
