Playing at the Riverbank Arena in London, GB took the lead right at the beginning by scoring a goal on 3 minutes. By half time, the hosts were leading by two goals.
Pakistan played comparatively better in the second half, trying to force the issue, but wastefulness in front of goal cost them dear as well as leave gaping holes at the back. No surprise then that Pakistan, who looked in danger of ending the match having failed to score, pulled one back through penalty corner specialist Sohail Abbas in a trademark strike.
Pakistan had earlier drawn its inaugural match against Spain 1-1 and won the second match against Argentina 2-0.
Team Green will play South Africa on August 5 and Australia on August 7 in what could shape whether they remain in the competition or bow out without a medal.

The English team played a better professional game of technique and coordination. No single player kept the ball very long and passed it effortlessly to his teammate. There were also no protests or fouls ups from them. On the other hand, our team looked subdued from the beginning when England scored a field goal in three minutes. In spite of getting penalty corners our expert did not score and the English team effortlessly scored another goal by a display of coordinated passes thus leading the Pakistanis by two goals. After that, the result was obvious to the onlookers. Best of luck and Salams
Must be a western conspiracy
surprising - pakistan usually plays well - perhaps it was tough luck
Bad luck team Pak Best of luck for next game.
As I observed after the Spain match, the Pakistani team needed to up its game several notches to compete against superior opposition--otherwise it would suffer massively like it did today. I agree with Yasir that you cannot over rely on penalty corner drag flicks to achieve success in a premier tournament. We need a strong, fast, intelligent, physically fit, and prolific goalscoring center forward lineup.
Now, Pakistan needs to work hard and really play well and try their best to defeat South Africa by 5 goals and get their Goal Difference to +4. This will hopefully put pressure on GB to beat Australia next up. If Australia are able to beat an under pressure GB team by 3 goals, their goal difference will go down to +3. In this event, Pakistan will be level on points with GB but ahead on goal difference by 1.
If won we are better, if lost we played crappy game. That's not a fair equation. I still see Pakistan an edge over its rivals and support over other teams, no matter we win or loose game.
Nothing lost yet... Pakistan can beat SA although Australia would be a difficult chance but on other hand chances of GB to win against Spain & Australia are also bleak..So Fingers are Crossed..!!
The better team which played as a team won. There should be no ifs or buts. Excuses do not win the matches, performance on the field does.
It certainly wasn't our day today.
The probability of Pakistan winning any match is directly proportional to the number of short penalty corners it gets. Pakistan lacks the front line attack which is critical if you want to come back for equalizers. Opponents need simply avoid giving any penalty corners and it will be difficult for Pakistan to score. The strength of Sohail Abbas can do magic only on the condition of corners. Forward line need to score as well.
That was a poor display. There was no coordinated move, lack of intensity and concentration. Even after 3 goals they were defensive...:( Best of luck for next game
England team was clearly better coached and our team it seems some of the players watching spectators and not the ball headed their way zero coordination So better team won is the harsh truth ...which is usually good coached teams bad teams don't. Pakistan played most of the time as if they were leading by two goals and the goal keeper was not any position save eve second hand English attack. Our team had the athletic technique but not the coordination and killer instinct that winning units have and we didn't.
wah
Best of luck to Pakistan for next battle :)
So all the euphoria ends with a thrashing defeat :d
