QUETTA:

Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim assured on Wednesday that efforts were being made to make electoral rolls transparent, while urging political parties, civil society and the media to help in the registration of each and every voter.

“If electoral lists are clear and transparent, elections will also be free and fair,” he told a news conference in Quetta. Ebrahim said the current electoral lists were not finalised and could be changed, while urging those who have not been enlisted to approach the commission.

“The process of registration will continue until all voters are enlisted,” he said adding that the commission staff was striving to prepare transparent and error-free lists. He also said the commission would launch a campaign with a slogan – “Help yourself, help me and help Pakistan” – to further ensure transparency.

Lauding the election team in Balochistan for its performance, Ebrahim said that the purpose of his visit was to observe the process of preparing electoral rolls.
