THATTA:

Employees sacked by the Thatta cement factory staged a rally to pressure authorities into accepting their demands. The rally began from the Edhi Centre an ended at the local press club.

The police tried to stop the rally on the National Highway to no avail.

The rally was led by the Peoples Labour Bureau and members of the Awami Tahreek, Jamaat-e-Islami and other parties also took part. Addressing the crowd at the press club, the Peoples Labor Bureau leaders Allah Bachayo Zangiani and Majeed Samo warned of launching a movement if the 70 sacked employees were not reinstated. Meanwhile, a large number of cultivators staged a sit-in to protest against the shortage of irrigation water in the coastal areas of Shahbandar and Jati talukas.

The protestors were led by Dr Nazeer Memon and Ali Muhammad Jamali and blocked the Thatta-Sujawal Road near Branch Mori. They said that no water had been released in the last couple of days to Sata Wah, Khanto Wah and Machki Shakh.
