FAISALABAD:

Urea fertiliser price has witnessed an increase of Rs62 per bag in the open market.

A visit to the local market revealed that a 50 kilogramme (kg) urea bag was available for Rs1,700, however the dealers are selling at Rs1,762 per 50 kg bag. The increase in the urea price not only created financial constraints for the farming community but the growers are also experiencing hardships to purchase the fertiliser for rice, cotton, sugarcane and other crops as the dealers started holding the stock to produce artificial shortage in the market therefore creating a black market for the product.

The farmers appealed to the government to issue orders with immediate effect to decrease the urea rate and take strict action against hoarders and illegal profiteers.
