Three clerks and a peon were initially taken into custody, but were released later. Meanwhile, Rs1,500 were deducted from each khasadar’s salary last month, to deal with the loss.

According to the political administration, there are 2,600 khasadars in Mohmand Agency with monthly salaries ranging from Rs8,000 to Rs12,000.

Their salaries have been regularly drawn from the government exchequer since 2008. An official of the political administration said that some of the money is distributed among the volunteers of the peace committees while the remainder is unaccounted.
