Students of private schools once again aced matric exams announced by the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (RBISE) on Wednesday.
First three positions for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) were clinched by girls of two private schools. Wajiha Khan aced the exams with 1022 marks out of 1050, while Izza Azam got the second position with 1016 marks. Both are students of Asif Public School, Rawalpindi. The third position was taken by Hafiza Hira Amjad, a student of Saint Paul’s Higher Secondary School for Girls in Rawalpindi, who obtained 1014 marks.
The overall success ratio of 111,581 candidates registered with BISE reached an all-time high at 62% this year with 68,925 students passing the exams. Among boys, the first slot was clinched by Muhammad Owais of Radiant Public School with 1011 marks.
The second position was shared between Muhammad Atif Khan and Muhammad Nauman Zafar, both students of Cadet College Haasanabdal, who obtained 1009 marks. The fourth position was again shared by two students of the same college, Abdul Rehman and Muhammad Bilal Ibrahim, with 1008 marks.
Last year, 59.57% candidates passed SSC exams, the ratio was 58.73% in 2010 and 61.69% in 2009. The success ratio among private students was 38.94%, while 77.46% regular students were declared successful.
Wajiha who came first said she would like to become a scientist and work on solving the energy crisis. Iram wants to train as a fighter pilot while Hafiza is determined to study to become a doctor.
Commenting on the positions obtained by private schools, BISE Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashraf said private schools selected talented students and worked hard with them. Government school teachers need to work on their students for better results, he added.
