However, Rukhsana was adamant that she would press for action against the filmmaker for what she claims was an unfulfilled promise of gratifications for appearing in the Oscar award winning film.
Express News reported on Tuesday that the NGO Islamic Health Foundation, with a help of a donor, had arranged for a house for Rukhsana. The property had been accepted by the acid victim, confirmed IHF official General Major Khalilur Rehman.
Rukhsana had unleashed allegations against the filmmaker saying that she had promised her a house, plastic surgery and Rs300,000. Claiming the promise was unfulfilled, she had registered a case against Obaid-Chinoy.
The filmmaker denied the allegations, saying that the house was promised by the IHF through a donor, and initial offerings had been rejected. Offers of plastic surgery, extended to Rukhsana and the other acid victim featured in the film, had also been reportedly rejected.
After receiving the keys of the house, Rukhsana told the media that she will take legal action against the filmmaker and will get money from her to help acid victims like herself.

@1984: I admire you that you are working hard and making your way in life, you got the opportunity with the God blessing, and God will bless you more. However we are not talking about the wish list but a promise which must be honored, your employer committed you, can not rejudge you what you have and or will do of the finance you will get and reconsider his financial commitments to you. If the promise of reward was conditional then it must be pointed put otherwise commitment must be honored. No justification what she is doing, or will do. Love you all.
@Aik-Paki: What about all the houses and cars and money you promised me? Can you prove that you have never promised me them? Yes, your confusion is what Sharmeen is feeling.
Rukhsana should very thankful to Sharmeen for giving her the chance to share her tragic story with the world which gave her a 3.5 marla house, and yet she wants more and turns on Sharmeen. How ungrateful. And to add to the insult she goes back to the husband who threw acid on her - sometimes it makes me wonder if even our unprivileged people are worthy of sympathy.
@Mohd Butt: Yes,Bro
I too want a Lamborgini Gallardo and a holiday home at Switzerland. But all I can buy was a Honda Civic and pay 15k monthly for the loans I took for buying a 2 BHK flat in the outskirts of the city.
and all because I was able to secure a nice paying job in a MNC company.I dont need to depend on others.
This woman has the moral compass to stay with the man who disfigured her but is now blackmailing the person who highlighted it
This is similar to a man who got disease because of contact with an infected person and is now blackmailing the doctor who diagnosed the disease
Black mailer woman.Someone may have advised her to get more.
Low morals on both sides. However, the filmmaker shoudl act generously and share some of the fame and money she earned from the film. Acid victim is not blackmailing she is just asking for her share..................
Quite sad to see people commenting for and against as if they themselves were part of the agreement between this woman and Sharmeen. None of us know what was promised and what was made up.
Second - does anyone have any proof that Sharmeen made money out of the documentary? and that she used for her own self? If not then we should stop pointing fingers
This proves one point.
No matter where your film goes, makes sure that it doesn't go for Oscars. The moment it goes for Oscars, people start pestering filmmakers.
Cases in point : The people of the region from Gujrat where Lagaan was shot. The kids/parents of Dharavi where Slumdog was shot. And Rukhsana here.
Sharmeen was awarded only because she bring the negative face of illiterate society in front of the world, and off course because it belong to Muslims and any effort that negate Muslim image will be praised by non-muslim world the people who applaud for Sharmeen have no self respect.
it is all happening because of increasing popularity of Islam in western women
@1984: My dear as a human, she deserve all you pointed out, if I and you can why not she? The important point is if she was promised then it must be honored. That it. love you all.
Somethings to think about : How come other victims from the movie have not come forward with such claims? Thousands or more people have watched the film and read about Rukhsana's claims- how come no one else has come forward to help this woman? Sharmeen opened a debate on this topic - the government gave her an award but what did they do for Rukhsana? Is taking care if acid burn victims Sharmeen's responsibility alone in a country of 118 million, with the highest propensity to give charity in the world??? This is sad -
What a greedy country, I watched sukhaana on Samaa tv a few weeks ago she said in the end that she was lying to the host I was laughing so hard I fell of my chair because Ofcourse our media was saying she's telling the truth esp Urdu wallas then she said she wanted money and I laughed again at how sad our future is and then I cried because Rukhsana is the type of woman who will do anything to get money and then I heard Marvi Memon on Samaa say after how Rukhsana has treated Sharmeen no one will want to help people like her because they will always be afraid of extortion and I agreed Rukhsana stop lying we don't care about your lies anymore You are the weakest link GOODBYE
The victims had been promised a home and free plastic surgery for appearing in the documentary and all proceeds obtained from displaying the movie in Pakistan. Ruksana has already go the home. She has rejected plastic surgery. So she has got what she was promised for appearing in the documentary.
The victims themselves said went to the court to prevent Sharmeen from displaying the documentary in Pakistan. Naturally if documentary is not displayed, there would be no profits and nothing to distribute.
Ruksana appears to be either greedy or misguided or both.
@ all above defending Sharmeen, dishonouring her promise is not justified by any means or any hypocritical posh standards of our pro-western elite minded peers. What is wrong is wrong ! just becasue her husband threw acid on her and Sharmeen encashed the story to win an Oscar ( and what not) doesnt justifies that now She can walk away withou fulfilling her promise with the acid victim who's story she use to earn oscar, fortune and fame !! Sharmeen shall her self write a reply infact make a elctronic media clarification rather then mentioningthat which designer she wore on which oscar party !
So why was the acid thrown again? One has to wonder.
Rukhsana's husband knows that he can get away with everything so why not try to extort a second home. In a country where many judges have gotten not one but two huge plots in the heart of capital city, then why not Rukhsana and her husband? They know the squeaky wheel gets the grease. The more noise they make the more the chances of gains. Rukhsana and her husband deserve each other now in their own home. I never knew that there are legally valid agreements and oral promissory notes in Pakistan. A country where Gen Zia comes into power with 90 days election promise and leaves well after a decade when he fell from the sky. And Rukhsana is talking about promises!
Though Rukhsana was filmed in 'saving face' but her acts and deeds has lost sympathy of uncounted people who have seen her film "Saving Face".
Despite being a victim of acid burn, the way Rukhasana is pursuing the matter is more painful for the well-wishers of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy who won the Oscar Award.
Rukhsana never uttered a word at the time when she came to know that the film "Saving Face" has earned the Oscar Award,
Now whatever she is doing is nothing else but a second thought as how to extort money from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Sharmeen we salute you and your work- pakistan needs people like you- extortionists like Rukhsana shouldn't deter you- please Marshall on you make me proud to be a Pakistani and I apologize on behalf of pakistan to you for making you suffer- we love you and will never forget how on the oscars you dedicated the award to us- pakistan zindabad Shermeen zinda bad
What about US Green card for self & family! This is just a start.
You should also consider that Rukhsana is living with the very inlaws that burnt her. Is there a possibility that she is being put up to this by them?
To me, this movie was always about Dr Jawad who goes out of the way to give back something to the acid victims. I took it as more about the humanitarian sacrifice of a plastic surgeon and was really glad that the world got to know about this unsung hero. But this greedy twist in the tale has made us loose focus from Dr Jawad's efforts. What a pity!
Dr Jawad, you remain a hero; no matter what all happens around this story!
“Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, "What's in it for me?
“Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, "What's in it for me?''
In our time that one is bad who brings about the ugly hidden things of our society. And the excuse for that is always that he or she has brought bad name for us or has tarnished the image of Pakistan. Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy also falls in that category. Many in this country do not question the practice of acid throwing on women, but they are abusing Sharmeen for presenting this fact before the world. And there are many who are supporting Rukhsana in her unholy cause of defaming a person who has not only spoken for thousands of women like her but also brought an Academy Award to a country whose entire film industry couldn't do in 65 years. I pay tributes to Sharmeen and hope that the present campaign against her will die down without any substantial damage to her.
Rukhsana makes the ideal candidate for a political party ticket - she would do well with any of the parties in the present assembly.
no wonder the Victim is from MULTAN ..... They dont miss such earning opportunities
@Akshay: Well said. It is presumed that a victim of injustice & the poorer class would behave in a more justifiable and humble way having suffered injustice and abuse from those who are at a higher level than them. But I feel when the moment of truth arrives the same people above prove to be full of poison enough to kill and greedy enough to do and say anything for money, like the rest of the greedy lot!!
Why did she stop with the house and money alone? She should demand - A 14 day holiday package from Cox and Kings to have a second honeymoon with her beloved husband - Ferrari GT alongwith monthly allowances of petrol - private jet - private holiday home in Switzerland - Monthly provisions of grocery and vegetables - Education fees for her children - Monthly allowance to purchase dresses and shoes - Furniture and home appliances to her new house
So that she can have a good life with her pious husband who loved her so much to throw acid on her face..
which prompts me to ask? How come her husband is not yet charged when its a known fact that he threw acid on her face???
If you were promised then get her, dont let her off the hook. She must be made to honor her commitments, no excuse her not to pay,
Not surprised to see the comments of our so-called educated and classy people of Pakistan who are impressed. Nobody seems to give any weight to the statement of poor girls with acid on her face. Every body believe what Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s is saying. Obaid-Chinoy got all the lime light of hollywood oscar and she is capable of arranging plastic surgery and Rs. 300,000. This in not greed of Rukhsana, she likes to live like a normal girl. An overseas pakistani like myself can pay Rs.300,000 ($3000) then how can Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy canot arrange it through a sponsor. She may have earned millions out of the Oscar base on this girls isery. It is a shameful for our higher class who takes advantage of poor girls like Rukhsana and get all the limeliht and fame on the expense of poors. A simlar thing happened to Slumdog millionar children actors. They were also paid/given houses after a long struggle and media pressure. I hope Rukhsana will also get the palstic surgery with all the media pressure on people like Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and the Government. Pakistan governemt is also responsible for the welfare of Pakistani's.
We bite the feeding hand! Typical characteristics of our people.
A house isn't enough. This just the beginning. She wants a helicopter.
Film maker needs a dismal second look!! She made millions out of this poor women!! Its called a face rape!! She used her...abused her and disown her as if She is human waste!! The film maker must fulfill her promises!!
She will live with the same person who threw acid on her in that new house. LOL
Full of Greed.
what a shame, filmmaker received all the fame and appreciated just because of those women appearing in her film, she should have facilitate them on humanitarian grounds.
She should stop blackmailing the woman whose efforts enabled her to get this house in the first place. In pakistani society,no good deed goes unpunished. The husband who burnt her face in the first place is now using the woman he burnt to blackmail sharmeen. This is pretty pathetic, even by our society's standards.Threatening and blackmailing for money the very people who've helped you out, that is a new kind of low.
