KARACHI:

Lawyers affiliated with the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) and the Sindh High Curt Bar Association, acting on a call given by the Pakistan Bar Council and the Sindh Bar Council, boycotted courts for most of Monday.

The City Court remained deserted throughout the day, while work at the Sindh High Court was done only in the morning. Judges relented to lawyers’ requests and retired to their chambers in the afternoon. During a general body meeting, KBA honorary secretary Khalid Mumtaz said at the meeting that the amended contempt of court law was against the constitution and Islamic principles, and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the amendment.
