Summer woes: Increase in dehydration cases predicted

ISLAMABAD:

The ongoing power crisis, coupled with scorching heat, has lead health experts to predict an increase in the number of dehydration cases in the twin cities this year.

A number of areas are witnessing power cuts every 30 minutes, and due to low intake of water during Ramazan, experts believe dehydration will be a major concern in the coming weeks.

According to Shifa International Hospital Medical Specialist Dr Haseeb Khawaja, increased sweating during daytime due to loadshedding and lack of water intake simultaneously makes the situation much worse during Ramazan compared to other days.

He suggested consuming water and lemonade during sehri and iftar and warned against taking beverages containing caffeine to avoid dehydration.
