Shortfall increases by 420 MW after private power plants develop fault

NTDC says problems will be resolved soon, restoring 1070 MW into the system.

LAHORE: After Chashma nuclear power plant was shut down recently owing to technical problems, two more private power plants shut down on Monday after having developed faults. Their closure has compounded the increasing electricity shortfall by 420 megawatts. 

The suspension of power supply by Orient and Halmore power plants has aggravated the loadshedding problem plaguing Punjab.

The Chashma nuclear power plant had already caused a power shortage 650 MW in the system.

According to a National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC ) source, the faults will be resolved soon at all power plants, restoring 1070 MW into the grid.
