Cotton cultivation: Target area set 11% higher

FCC was informed that the target for area under cultivation for cotton has been set at 7.806 million acres

The Federal Committee on Cotton (FCC) was informed on Friday that the target for area under cultivation for cotton has been set at 7.806 million acres, which is 11% more than the area from which cotton was harvested in 2011-12, after flood damages. It was further informed that Pakistan has achieved 92.71% of its sowing area target so far.


The committee was constituted with the objective to set targets of area under cotton cultivation and cotton production, and to evaluate the availability of inputs; specifically, water, seed, fertiliser and pesticides.

The meeting was attended by representatives of provincial governments, State Bank of Pakistan and Indus River System Authority, among others.
