The protesters wanted to go to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) office on Shahrah-e-Faisal and register their complaint against the ban on a watchdog website, shiakilling.com.
The law enforcers had told the participants of the rally that they will not be allowed to reach their destination and the protest route was blocked. However the protesters, mostly youngsters, overcame the blockade and moved on.
The protesters also threw stones at the police officials present in the area and burnt tyres. Groups of new protesters joined the demonstration later.
No arrests have been made so far.
The block on the Shia killing watchdog site came almost a week after the regulatory body had blocked the official website of the Ahmadiyya community, which was unblocked later.

@Raj - USA The Shia population can replenish itself, thank you. We dont need the aid of short lived nation-states like Pakistan, or India for that matter. Your countries will fall but we will endure as we always have.
May ALLAH bless us with the true understanding of ISLAM save us all.
If those insane people think they are doing service of islam by doing this they are nothing but Retards
If they have courage i dare them to go and liberate women and kids from Sindh fudals private Jails. I bet they wont as these cowards only kill weaker and civilians
@ali:
How? Only one of them is human and other is not? Only one of them can be persecuted for their beliefs and the other cannot?
Exactly this sort of mentality has gotten Shias into this situation. What goes round comes round.
@Abdulla diwana: For that matter... christians are killing christians and hindus are commiting crimes against hindus... black sheep are in every society... dont give me this crap that people of your religion are all angels...
Good News....The banned website has been redirected to a new URL as a alternative i.e. http://pakshia.com/en/.
I want to clear one thing that Ahmadis & Shias are two different issues, kindly don't try to link them......as many comments are trying to do so.
@Angel: Dear Angel if you look Umer's comment just after your comment you will get the answer. If Shia's are not a major portion of the population in Pakistan and in the rest of world your dearest Mullah's made them Kafir too by passing a Bill in your Pakistan's constitution. I am an Ahmadi , But half of my family is Shia's. God Bless all the innocent Shia's , Sunni's , Ahmadi's and all the minorities of Pakistan. For me everyone is first Human Being , not Muslim, Jew, Christian or Kafir as per Pakistan's Constitution
@mess: yes there was an reason,
it was telling shias how many shias are killed everyday in pakistan.
Just go and check the so called major network who just told that shias were protesting but never mentioned the reason ? What a fair journalism …. Another news channel shown Hafiz Saeed and Sami Ul Haq address a Shia community conference ( both leader and their parties are famous for anti shia views). Height of yellow journalism ....
There would have been no need of the website If and only If Pak media has even bothered to report the killings of Shias. Not even a single news channel or newspaper reported the names of the men and women mercilessly killed after checking the ID cards near Gilgat . In Quetta Haraza shia are daily targeted and no one will report that why a community in Quetta is systematically being killed. And if a website reported then it was blocked ....
PTA wont ban the site of LeJ or SSP but will ban a website that just reports how many people belonging to minority were killed.
How disgusting! Shias, Ahmad's, Hindus, Christians........no one is safe anymore in Pakistan. Is the country a jagir of Sunnis? Is this the meaning of the land of the pure? Are Sunnis the only clean and pure people? OMG!
Is Pakistan the jagir of Sunnis?? Disgusting!
ET is so biased and does not report on Sunni Vs. Shia clashes in India. It should not be an excuse that such clashes are just not there. ET being a Pakistani Newspaper should still publish on the wide-spread Sunni / Shia clashes in India. Anyhow, after the Kashmir issue is solved to the satisfaction of the peace loving charitable organizations, it would all be fine as Kashmir has the most Shia population in India. Pakistan needs to replenish its Shia population to make for those who have been mercifully sent to their destiny. Who cares if Iran has often supported India on the Kashmir issue ?
@Ali:
I think they consider Shias as kafirs and hence think Shias have lesser rights than rest of Muslims such as in self expressing themselves as Muslims or attributing themselves to Islam. I think this problem can be reduced if Shias accept themselves as non-Muslims.
@Umer
Oops. You're right. Thanks for spotting that typo.
i dream of a Pakistan which grows out of this sunni /shia, muslim/ non muslim thing and grows together towards prosperity n peace
Why Indians have so much interest in our internal matters?? Can anybody please explain why the article gave a reference of Ahmedis. Shias and Sunnis are Muslims. and Ahmedis are kafir as per Pakistan's constitution.
It is very sad to hear this news. Shia's of pakistan have contributed a lot to create and build pakistan. Now they are paying the price. they are getting killed on daily basis. The so called democratic government is not doing any thing to stop this. and now a this ban is a shamefull act by them. i tired of this. i think its better for shias to seprate from pakistan.
Difa e Pakistan can hold protest but Shias can't. Shias facing genicide in some ateas, still they can't protest. Hats off to this government.....
Please do not push one fourth of the population to the wall. Such websites do not spread hatred, rather they stop spread of hatred and provide catharsis to the affected community. Don't block these venues.
Is it not very unfortunate that there are very few Hindus, Christians and Ahmedis left out to be raped / converted / killed and that Shia's have to be targeted now? Shias are already Muslims. So, cannot convert them and have to send them to their eternal abode with fanfare. After Shias, what ? OK someone from within shall be found. No worries here as there are plenty of reasons. Good times are coming. Ramzan and Eid will provide good opportunities, better than auspicious Fridays, and there will be some who will see the moon on a different day or at a different angle. Still remember the good old days when Talibans used to walk around with a measuring scale to measure the length of beards.
Taliban and their supporters are destroying Pakistan on every level and twisting Islam.
I will support their destruction and salvation of Pakistan from their evil. Enough is enough.
Media, Cheap Justice, Govt, Army, Police, FC etc all of them are keeping a blind eye on shia killings in Pakistan. In chilas in one day 300 shias died including women and children. Every day shias are dying in Karachi and Quetta. The only shia website that highlights the killing of innocent shias is now banned in PK. SSP is allowed to do their protest even in Islamabad but shias are not allowed to record their peaceful protest even in front of PTA...what's going on?
Shias would be much safer in India. Can the Indians take them back? Notice you won't ever find a shia suicide bomber, never find a shia killing innocent people in mosques, markets, public places.
This can only happen in Pakistan. I sit here in the west defending Pakistan and Pakistanis when visiting the Indian sites and western sites. I do it cuz I am a Pakistani. Yet I start to really hate Pakistan and Pakistanis living there as there is a shia genocide taking place in Pakistan and no one gives a damn. It pains me when every single day I hear about the shias being butchered in Pakistan and their killers roaming free. Do the majority of the people living in Pakistan have a heart????
@kaalchakra Minor events? Wow. Its the same mentality as yours which must have led to this ban. And u preach a religion which says one death is whole humanity's death? Where did you islam go now? I can not fathom what your definition of MAJOR EVENTS would be. May be daily blasts on their mosques, like the Ashura blast 2 years ago? Shame. @mj I personally had friends and neighbours who were shias and had not harmed si much as a fly all thier lives. Keep living in the sandhole. You most probably deserve it.
Jab padhti hai tab pata chalta hai. Dear Pseudo-liberals and supposed advocates of human rights, you are all here sitting and commenting because your parents and siblings have never been slaughtered. I wish this would never happen to our enemies. We shiites are equal humans and we deserve to be treated equally. These killings based on religious entitlements are wrong and I know you people can't come out to say that. At least try and pretend to show concern on the internet.
@Jim Jones:
Little typo there I hope.
@kaalchakra: What about Lashkar-e-Taiba and Lashkar e Jhangvi march all over the country. I have not seen anybody stoping them.
Dear All, Please keep this in mind that the website was not promoting hatred. It was just reporting the authentic killings of SHAIS. Basically, it is the duty of media to report the killings. But in our country, even media is biased. If the media is not doing its duty then whats harm in operating a website for reporting the massacre of Shias. On the other hand, the websites which promote hatred by declaring SHIAS as Kafir are running smoothly. Shame on PTA, Shame on govt, Shame on media
First they came for the Hindus, but I did not speak out, because I am not a Hindu.
Then they came for the Ahmediyas but I did not speak out, because I am not a Christian.
Then they came for the Shias, but I did not speak out, because I am not Shia.
Finally, they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me.
this happens when you play havoc with your education system ... sectarianism !!!!
the website never potrayed against anyone, just propagated the killings of shias across pakistan. Is it a crime?
@Somesh: he is primarily talking about human beings, be it muslim or not so no need to declare it. secondly that was a peaceful rally organized by a group of muslims to record their protest.
@kaalchakra:"But we really do not need sectarian websites promoting hatred by blowing minor events out of all proportion" So according to you target killing of shias is a minor event.Tell that to any person whose relative has been killed after checking his I.D card and you may not be able to say anything after that
gp65
Kindly don't twist words to suit your agenda. Do you see anyone here supporting the killing of innocent people?
Ahmadis and Shias have become second class citizens - anyone who does not subscribe to the mullah mentality is suffering
@kaalchakra: "Please, brothers and sisters, restrain yourselves. Do you not see that you are creating hatred instead of solving problems?"
Interesting - someone protesting killing is guilty of creating hatred but the person actually killing is completely innocent. Amazing logic.
It is weird how the first link points to the news item related to banning of ahmadi website, rather than banning of shiakilling.com Shias are not ahmedis.
Faiza
Again, an unnecessary attempt to paint the other side as irrational and hateful. The protesters were not all peaceful. They carried weapons, threatened bystanders, and fired on policemen attempting desperately to control the crowds.
This is a country where only murderers can protest freely while the victims get punished again and again...
@noreply:
Doesn't take much to fund a website, nor to organize a protest from the discriminated and targeted Shia community against high-handedness. Not surprised by the alienating, marginalizing conspiracist gem.
@Anwar Ahmad:
Or worse...they silently approve of sectarian extremists' viewpoints. This wouldn't be the first institutionalized sectarian incident of discrimination and bigotry.
It was a peaceful protest but police and rangers suddenly attacked the protesters....what a shame!
RA
Please don't conflate issues. There are different issues and totally different contexts.
Ban Ahmadi website Ban Shia website a clue that both are in same group Who is going to be the next? Just guess List will be long
Doosam
Brother, I do not know the details of this case. May be you are right. But it is not good to jump to conclusions and start blaming others as our Shia brothers and sisters are doing here. Shias should convince their other brothers and sisters that their website does not exaggerate events and does not hurt the reputation of Pakistan - homeland of all Muslims.
@Kaalchakra, so you think that LeJ, SSP, TTP etc. are not spreading hatred and instead the website shiakilling is? The website is documenting and creating awareness about the atrocities committed against shias.
The protest is about raising voice against systematic persecution of a community as well as freedom of speech.
@noreply: we are petriotic tax paying pakistanies like you bro but we are being killed because of our faith. Our media doesnt report the cases as they should be potrayed people who take the responsibility say that they are beinfg killed because they are shia . Our CJ is not taking suomoto notice he can notice of baloch's disappearance in balochistan but doesnt say a word about hazara shia killing in same balochistan . CJ takes notice of kohistan wedding girls issue but doesnt move an eye brow on chillas killing . Can take notice on farida shah slaps on ladies electoral staff but doesnt take notice of 2 to 3 shia killing only in karachi daily. Then you say the websites that is reporting this oppression is funded. Bro please dont discriminate we dont want to fight we want peace.
Message by Pakistan's Government to Protesters. You will be killed and we will not apprehend the killers if thats not enough we will not allow you to report it . Lastly, you cant protest the oppression you are facing .
@Kaalchakra: " Islam has never supported the killing of anyone, not even Non-Muslim/Kafir or Hindu unnecessarily."
However, unfortunately Muslims are killing even Muslims. Isn't that paradoxical?
"Please tell me the human being here also includes a Non-Muslim/Kafir or a Hindu or an Indian also…"
Somesh, why do you have this bigoted impression that Islam is a blood-thirsty religion?! Islam has never supported the killing of anyone, not even Non-Muslim/Kafir or Hindu unnecessarily.
pls fake liberals have the courage to say the government has failed to protect the rights of people......and that they should be voted out
Sectarianism and persecution of minorities really started after 1974; when Ahmadi's were declared Non muslims.Zia 's regimen and madrassah culture then just took it to monstrous proportions.
For your informationn and record; Ahmadiyya website www.alislam.org is stiill blocked in Pakistan.
Act of banning/blocking websites cleary shows present Government's insbility/failure to curb violence against minorities as well as other marginalized sections of society. Either they do not have will to do it or they do not have the guts to stand against terrorists.
The roots of most of the problems Pakistan is facing today (including the economic & political crises and religious intolerance) are inherently constitutional. Thanks to our Father of the Nation’s foresight, a comprehensive solution of these problems fortunately still exists! The unique solution lies in including Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s August 11, 1947 Presidential Address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan as “Quaid-e-Azam’s Vision of Pakistan” in the constitution before its preamble. Embedding Quaid-e-Azam’s progressive vision into the constitution as articulated through his words of wisdom is bound to have a profound impact on our national destiny, as it will modernize our national psyche and humanize the state by forcing it to solely concentrate on the well-being of its citizens regardless of their creed or ethnicity. This masterful stroke will establish the Federal Legislature of Pakistan as its “full and complete sovereign body” as Quaid-e-Azam clearly spelled out in his address; and will eventually undo all the wrongs inflicted upon the constitution since as far back as 1973-74. Above all, it will provide the people with the legal framework and moral foundation badly needed to combat the institutionalized bigotry rampant in our state. Quaid-e-Azam’s address must be enshrined in the constitution, as it is the only hope left for Pakistan to function as a nation-state in the 21st century and beyond. Quaid-e-Azam’s stature and the parliamentary majority offer the present government the unique opportunity to achieve this breakthrough now that shall uplift the generations of Pakistanis alive and yet to be born. The government must feel the burden of history and seize the day.
Nobody supports killing of innocent people anywhere, including the poor being killed by American drones. But we really do not need sectarian websites promoting hatred by blowing minor events out of all proportion. People who are brothers and sisters ought to behave like brothers and sisters.
@Babloo: first Hindus, then Sikhs, Christians, and now Ahmedis, Shias, and coming soon.........................
Killing is killing, there should not be hatred like Shiakilling or Sunikilling. And I surprised to know that rally held for just a discriminated website closing it means the website is funded.
@Mohammad Ali Siddiqui: Killing of a human being is killing of whole humanity. Please tell me the human being here also includes a Non-Muslim/Kafir or a Hindu or an Indian also...
Welcome to the Club...:)
Only DPC, JuD and LeJ can rally whenever they like, whereever they like.
Let's not spread the hatred.
Killing of a human being is killing of whole humanity.
Pakistan is not made for any prticular cast, creed or sect.
People from different schools of thoughts are all Pakistanis first and then any thing else.
thre shud be some reason why they banned it.
First Ahmedis, then Shias. Should have thought about the religion based state in 1947.
First Ahmedis , then Shias. Should have thought about that in 1947.
