Prisoner on the run arrested near Pindi

The drug smuggler and motorbike lifter was nabbed along with his two accomplice brothers.

ATTOCK: A prisoner who escaped while being transported to Attock Jail from Rawalpindi last week has been arrested by the police along with two of his accomplice brothers.

According to police sources, Shamsher Khan, alias Amjad Khan, was arrested along with his two brothers, Taj Wali and Hafiz, from their hideout near Islamabad in a joint raid conducted by the Attock police and the Elite Force a few days back. The three men are residents of Mardan. The police also recovered a bulletproof police vest from their hideout.

The source said the accused admitted during interrogations that they intercepted the private taxi (RIW 993) in which the police were transporting their brother to Attock Jail. They also admitted to shooting Constable Najamul Hassan and taxi driver Mudasar Ghiyas dead and injuring Constable Ashfaque Ahmed and Sub-Inspector Jameel Ahmed Shah.

The Attock police have not yet given an official version of the arrest to the media.

Shamsher Khan, a drug smuggler and motorbike lifter, was freed while being transported to Attock Jail from Rawalpindi in a brazen attack by an armed group of four to five men on July 7. They managed to flee along with the convict on motorcycles.
