"Do you even bothered to see what perks armed forces officers get in the rest of world, USA is your prime example."
Officers in the US military don't get plots, free country clubs, bullet proof Mecedes cars, servants for the family, free land, free electricity, free vacation travel... to name a few. While every Pakistani general becomes a millionaire, hardly any of the US generals become flithy rich at the expense of the state.
@arif: Ask how did the American could easily enter and leave Pakistan.
Just for information, have ever any Sindhi speaking person selected for higher post in our Pakistan Army?
And these issues, regarding ISI and all are too complex for us to talk about. if the common people (like us) got to know all the workings of the organization then it would have failed as an intelligence organization.This happens in all other countries with effective intelligence agencies Please try to understand that these organizations are the state organization and are present there for our interest. If it hadn't been for these organizations doing there jobs right, do you think that talibans, or for that matter all the countries(i wouldn't want to name any as we all know whose interests are present) interested would spare a day to cross our borders??
@Ahsan: oh im sure u are the one present in all the meeting of PM.. please enlighten us all with the secrets known to the PM and those which Army hides.
@bob: "….the perks and privileges are like in any good and organized institution in any part of the world…"
Can you please educate us ignorent lot and compare perks enjoyed by similar ranks in USA, UK or Indian or our best friend Peoples Republic of China?
@aslam: Don't lie. For a plot of costing 4 crore, there should be a deduction of more than one lakh per month for 30 years. What is the salary of a captain, major, colonel, brigadier, and general again?
@Anonymous:
No, I will not run to the Army. Army fights for its own interest. Otherwise, there would not have been the Taliban in Pakistan. Army (Zia) created these Taliban.
@Sameer:
Thanks for your infomation. .Yes, it is under our PM. But, it works under the Umbrella of the Army. The PM does not know the "secret of the secrets".
@ Ahmad So whats the harm if Army has 200 Generals to command such a huge infrastructure??? It has always been like this, not the other way round as you were suggesting that army had only 3 Generals in 1960s.
19 happy families....each family now will send at least 2 kids to foreign universities....
---that means 38 Pakistanis getting quality education and promoting the brand image of the country.........and they all will send precious foreign remittances to Pakistan.. Guys...look at the positive side !!!
@Peeru Shah: "What do you want Raja Rental, molvi Munnawar Hussain or Mian shahbaz Sharif should head Army?"
ET: You might find my comment harsh but it does not attack any individual or their faith. It is supported by facts. So I would appreciate if you allow it to be published.
Short answer: Yes. Now an explanation: In all democracies army reports to civilians. You make it sound laughable by brining up the track record of the civilians. Let me bring up the track record when army was ruling:
1) 1965 started by army and lost by Pakistan army (contrary to what you may have been taught) 2) 1971 - Dhaka rape and massacre of its own citizens. 90,000 soldiers surrender. Half the country lost 3) 1980s - Allowing radicalization, weaponization and drug culture in the country by support for US against USSR in lieu of money 4) 1999 - Kargill which scuttled the peace process that had been started by a Lahore bus trip just a few months prior. 5) 1986 - Killing Akbar Bugti and other actions which has fired up the insurgency in Balochistan.
Two examples come to mind of the performance in recent times: May 2 and Mehran base attack.
@Ahsan: Mind you ISI does not come under the army. It is an organization which comes under our Prime Minister
.I may be ignorant in these matters but why in the US a brigadier is called brigadier general and not just brigadier, if these brigadiers are already generals then what is the fuss about. Please enlighten me.
you people are having a sound sleep because of the army who are awake day and night to protect this home land. Ask the shaheed who laid their lives at Giari sector, salala post and thousands of many more. You all should pay tribute to all this shaheed instead of criticizing.
@Awans
Swat operation was against taliban nurtured by the army! Taliban werent dropped from the air by Zionists. And do you know we have never won a war in history
The problem here is the double standards. People are writing alot about how the newly promoted generals have been appointed on merit and they deserve their priveledges. Fine. But if the heading was, 19 20 grade civil servants promoted to 21 grade officials, we would only have long diatribes about corruption, as if only newly promoted generals deserve plots and priveldges and everyone else are second class government officials.
@Muhammad Ahsan KHAN: Mr khan when next next time Taliban will knock at your door in KPK then dont start running towards the Army rather try to tackle Taliban on your own. You are thankless bashers of Pak Army. Ask Afghan forces to secure you next time from Taliban if you hate Pakistani Army too much
@ahmed: So your source is Wikipedia. Wait i will change in a couple of minutes. The people like you are on a propaganda mission to defame Pakistan Army so that then Taliban could reign in easily as when Army will be weakened then it will be easier for extremists to take over. The two hostile neighbors on our borders who dont even consider the existence of Pakistan as a Reality are posing a real threat, along with Internal Conflict and thanks to Pakistan Army that no one can dare to Attack Pakistan. If Pakistani Army would be not be strong enough then whole of KPK and Punjab until now would be under Mullah Radio who is now being eliminated. Also for your info in every course 350 officers are selected and everyone know it so tell me how come 500+ can get promotions in One Month??. Also how you detracted from 200 to Just 2 Generals is remarkable. Army have this structure since ages and when you are maintaining a 600,000 strong Army then you need this structure. Just compare it to Indian Army where the ration of Soldiers to Officers is much higher than Pakistan and then come back again to bash Pakistan Army.
@aslam:
Your statement that no body knows any thing about the Army is correct. We would be glad to know. Even you, who claims to know about the Army did not reveal any information. Any thing concerning the Army is secret. Even the State of Pakistan (government) does not know what the Army (ISI) does.
It is like a black-hole where every thing is absorbed and nothing comes out.
@Sameer: Mr Sameer, yes I am an Indian and yes am worried about my own country. It is exactly for this reason I keep a close eye on Pakistan. Hope you get my point.
Not only Indians, people from almost all countries keep you under watch; after all you are extra special.
@ahmed
Next time before citing a link please ensure it is not a dud.
You must be kidding us when you say there were 3 Generals in Pakistan Army in 1960s.Army has 9 corps each having 3 divisions. A division is commanded by a Major General. 9 X 3 = 27. Even if we agree that there were less divisions in 60s, it is simply preposterous to say that Army was being run by only 3 Generals in 60s. Apart from command appointments then you have General officers in GHQ for administartive tasks. In short you are drastically wrong with your facts.
Kindly enlighten us by naming any one COAS who was son of an Army officer. Here I would like to tell you about two Army cheifs. First General Musa Khan : He rose from the ranks i.e he was a sepoy before getting commision. Second Gen Kayyani : He is son of a JCO. These two examples amply prove that you do not have a more fair and transparent system of promotions in any department of Pakistan.
Please give any one reference of +500 promotions in Army. 70% of officers get commision as Second Leuts in Grade 17 and retire as Majors in Grade 18. I think this is the injustice which should be highlighted.
@Awans: At present, the army has 2 full generals, 24 lieutenant generals and around 150 major generals. Did you open the link just copy and paste in explorer bar or google search http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ListofservinggeneralsofthePakistan_Army
These promotions would not be criticized if the Army was not seen as being the most responsible party for the current miserable state of the nation.
I have never understood how a country which has nukes, large army, and expensive American high tech weapons --- can allow a significant portion of it's country to remain under the control of extremist militants. And don't get me started on the fact that you can't afford the existing Generals let alone more of them --- and how about the fact that you have yet to win a war but seem to have started a few?
2 More Gen from Chakwal City , Both are Talented ..
Mr Jat I am a regular on ET and you repeatedly told in the past that you are an Indian so why you you are so worried about Pakistani Army? rather you should be worried for your own country.
@ahmed really only kins of army officers are preffered? if u have so much info then can u please enlighten us all with the info that what did the parents of our last two chiefs were?? my guess(i.e if you are right) is they should be sons of some army officers.. right??
Only 19?! Why?
@ahmed: Oh I forgot Gen Aslam Beg and Gen Durrani - these two worked so hard for the benefit of poor politicians and for making the election process clean and transparent.
@ahmed: Such a lie. Shame on you. How come there could be 200 Generals at the same time???. Stop this Propaganda and lies against Pakistani Army. ET should be careful that this platform is used to Portray Pakistan Army in a bad manner and many people in disguise use this platform to have their own hidden agendas portrayed here. It is pretty interesting usually I got referral to these types of news from chat groups run by RSS India and they encourage their visitors to comment on the news pieces like these.
@Jat: YOU MUST BE KIDDING. Peoples like EDHI Sb are social workers not this!!!
@Jat: Really??What he did for the peoples. yes he has hundred acres land in narowal which was received at 200 rupees per acre. do u think he deserve it. he had earned big money & plots in islamabad & rest of DHA societies. Thats really EDHI needs to do tooooooo
@Zeta: Why didn’t you joined the army then Because they separte the guy in during ISSB as they categorecally separate the candidate whose family memebers are not in army.Then made selection. Only kins of army offciers are preffered. see the family names in the current list too.
@ahmed: Hamid Gul - who can be a bigger social activist than him ?
Any general involved in any social activity after retirement??? Any name
@Peeru Shah: There were three general during 1960s but now more than 200? ther were +500 promotion in the last month. not a single institution in the country has such a mass of promotion. The teacher who taught us in the school has retired on the sae post after 35 years.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ListofservinggeneralsofthePakistan_Army
come on ppl, its simple...once 19 vacancies are vacated by retiring generals, someone has to go up and take their place...and in the army its through a strict evaluation board, probably the strictest in pakistan. as far as concerns about plots etc are concerned, i think every institution offers such incentives, without which, noone would like to waste 30-35 years in harsh environments. dont be too much biased here, its our own army from our own society having our own brothers and fathers and sons serving in it. where did defence minister came from? ridiculous!
I have a simple point: you don't step into the same river twice. Pak army today is not the one it was under Gen Zia. Back then, when it should've been targeted for what it was doing, everyone supported it. Now when it is weaning itself away from the US and in the best interests of the nation moving closer to the regional nations, everybody has joined the smear campaign against it. Why is it that only now the corporate media and the dubious anchors have begun to criticize it severely? If you want to truly assess the vision of the present generals, look at Pakistan's foreign policy...moving towards regionalism. As far as NATO supply etc issues are concerned, just keep in mind, we are a dependent state and cannot just wish away our shackles. We have to prudently move ahead to strengthen our ties with the emerging powers and very gradually steer our interests away from that of the US. Pak army is on track now. I wish the new generals luck!
@Peeru Shah: I agree with you. The so called Extremist Liberals can never be happy with anything. For them criticism of everything is a part of their life.
All of you above! It is due to incompetence, greed, corruption and disloyality of us civilians that Army generals get oppurtunity/chance to be king makers, rulers. Ever you have thought that why DHA societies are hot favourite for people to live, simple answer is that these are well managed and well administered . There is no iota of doubt in peoples mind that some qabza group will make double file and take over your plot and your lives earning will go away. what ever misbehave in such societies in shape of illegal construction and other such chores are mostly done by us influntial civilians. Same is the case with AWT run businesse, all are run in profits. i think its time that instead of Army bashing we should stop venting our frustration in hollow words and pull up our socks to make our housing societies well then automatically the prices of DHA will go down, we should make our organizations and bussineses corruption free then Army may have to leave this arena in face of tough competition. AM I RIGHT??????
All of you know nothing but just write comments on hearsay.Can anyone of you know exact salary,exact allowances,exact starting basic pay of captain,major,colonel etc.Can anyone of you know plot allotment procedure to army officers and what deductions are made.Please share if you know but i can say that now none of you will have the knowledge.I know civilian and army pays and scales exact and not just hearsay.You will be surprised and deep silent if you knew army salaries for 24 hours daily job. Finger picking is the most easy task without knowledge.For plot, they do not get free and many officer do not get because they do not apply as monthly salary cutting for 35 years and last benefits of service like full fund goes in that plot.Not free plot in plate. If a person deduct salary since 1973 and a civilian gets full salary,then what should be done after 40 years while salary of army officers which you know not is less than civilians.Most officers of army are rich from home side and buy car with parents/brothers money so do not speculate high Salary while sitting at computers and knowing nothing.Why journalists do not publish army salaries scales because they know civilian will stop attacking army if true picture appears
Post something related to army and these indians come flocking here like hungry rabbits.
@All you guys jealous of perks the army officers get, Why didn't you joined the army then. Complaining and whining like this doesn't help your case. Do you even bothered to see what perks armed forces officers get in the rest of world, USA is your prime example.
Do we really need that much MGs...?
yup thats exactly what we need. more generals!
What do you want Raja Rental, molvi Munnawar Hussain or Mian shahbaz Sharif should head Army? Generals get retired from their service and somebody has to take their places. If we go by the above stated comments than I think Command of Army should be given to Molana fazal ur Rehman. Only then the people who commented above will be happy....
Titles should be revised as General Managers instead of major generals!! after all they have to look after business related to army.
"promoted as majors general"
Should it not be "major generals"?
In any case, there are 19 more "king makers".
More Plots?
Not even army is safe of radicalization as the brigadiers who happened to be shia by sect are not on the list promoted.
The Defence Minister of Pakistan heads the Ministry of Defence, under which serve the three armed forces of the country, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, and Pakistan Navy - Wikipedia
Where is the defence minister, super democracy !
Allocation of more farmhouses, plots, real estate etc!! Our army has developed an impression of business corporate institution instead of a combat force.
Today's news, Pakistan's credit rating downgraded, the army officers upgraded! The biggest secret of Islamic Republic of Pakistan is the pay and perks of the generals. Nobody talks about Islamic equality, fairness and transparency when it comes to the generals and total defense expenses which are hidden in civilian budget as well. How much more can our poor economy tolerate without further downgrade?
That means 19 more prime location properties to be given away soon.
