An OIC spokesman confirmed that the Islamic Development Bank has allocated $11.2 million for assistance to Pakistan.
The OIC called in a communiqué for the international community and Islamic world to provide urgent material and financial aid to Pakistan.
The appeal was issued at an emergency meeting for representatives of member states of the organisation.
OIC secretary general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told the meeting that the OIC will hold a meeting in Pakistan for Islamic Red Crescent societies and relief bodies to coordinate aid.
Saudi Arabia fundraising campaign
Saudi Arabia has collected $27 million for the flood affectees through the Saudi Public Assistance Campaign on the directives of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz. Food items, quilts, clothes and items of daily use have been collected during the campaign.
King Abdullah has donated 20 million riyals, Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz donated 10 million riyals, while Saudi Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz contributed five million riyals to the assistance fund.
The assistance campaign will continue throughout Ramazan so that Saudi citizens can donate generously. The oil-rich kingdom has already sent 16 planeloads of relief supply for the flood victims.
