Govt issued notice on civil judge’s plea

LAHORE: Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a reply from the Punjab government and the services secretary by September 20 on a petition filed by a civil judge seeking permission to sit the examination to qualify for the post of additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ).

Advocate M Khalid, representing Civil Judge Zafar Iqbal, submitted that lawyers with 10 years of experience practising the law were allowed to sit the exams, but civil judges who had the same amount of judicial experience were not.

He said that the career progression laid out for civil judges to become ADSJs took much longer. He said that civil judges with 10 years of experience should be allowed to sit the exams and sought instructions from the court in this regard.
