Blasphemy accused sent to jail on remand
A magistrate sentenced blasphemy accused Faryad Ali to jail on a 14-day judicial remand on Monday.
The investigation officer told the court that since the accused had admitted to the crime there was no room for further interrogation and he should be sent to jail. The court ordered a July 15 trial for the accused.
The investigation officer was directed to complete the investigation and a charge-sheet within 14 days as required under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CCRP) so a formal trial of the case could be initiated. Faryad allegedly had committed blasphemous acts over which the residents of Marzi Pura caught him and severely thrashed and tortured him on Sunday. Police arrived to rescue him on being informed.
Gulberg Deputy Superintendent Chaudhry Ashiq Jatt and Lyalpur Town Superintendent Zahid Mehmood Gondal reached the spot and pacified the protesters by telling them that action would be taken against the accused in accordance with the law. The police had registered a case on Sunday on the complaint of Abdus Sattar, a resident of Marzipura, under section 295C of the blasphemy law.
Earlier, Sattar had told The Express Tribune that the accused had uttered derogatory remarks against the Holy Prophet (pbuh) in the presence of Muhammad Ashraf.
According to him, Faryad repeatedly made these remarks and was reprimanded and asked not to commit blasphemy but “he refused to accept such warnings”. Faryad, a 45-year-old Muslim by birth, is married and has five children.

Whoever commits blasphemy, he should be punished according to rules set and prescribed by sharia, through proper procedures and investigation. Having a soft corner for those who actually commits blasphemy and utter derogatory remarks against holy persons, now way ....he should be brought to the court of law in true essence of islam. I reiterate, I am also against unfair treatment of accused.. but then its problem with the law implementation, not the law itself...
@Member of the Liberal Mafia: News reports, and even the court decisions, never tell you exactly what the person said that was blasphemous. In one of my law books it stated this is presumably because it would be considered repetition of the blasphemy. Absurd, but probably true

Most decent human beings know that if someone says something that is offensive to you, but cant actually effect you, the mature thing to do is ignore them. and you're saying that people's feelings should be hurt because someone speaks ill of their religion...imagine the feelings of those whose loved ones are beaten or killed in the name of punishment for blasphemy.
I wonder wut sort of religious freedom and freedom of speech these " liberal extremists" want, a freedom of saying wutever they want to holy personalities and beloved of billions? Is it religious freedom and freedom of expression ? if some one standing in front of you and abusing your parents and you allow him to do so due to freedom of speech? . Religious freedom deals mainly with allowing everyone to practise whatever they want to practice, but it doesn't and shouldn't allow any one to utter words which hurt others.... There can be problems in implementation of the law, the investigation procedures need overhauling and refinement, and yes it can be used to settle personal scores, but thats the problem of law makers and executives, not the problem with law..

Why is the reporting so vague and uninformative? What did he say or do? I guess there's no need to report these unimportant details. As long as an angry mob says there was blasphemy; that's good enough for us all. No need to ask any further questions.
