Budget allocations: Rs5.534 billion approved for PU

Budget approved with a deficit of Rs1.565 billion.

The Punjab University Syndicate meeting, presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, on Thursday approved a Rs5.534 billion budget for 2012-13 with a deficit of Rs1.565 billion. The university expects research grant of Rs1.482 billion and tenure track grant of Rs69.896 million from the Higher Education Commission.


The carry forward deficit is Rs618.262 million, a PU statement released on Thursday said. Despite the financial constraints, the PU administration has increased its research budget from Rs75 million to Rs85 million. It has also been decided not to increase tuition or hostel fees. The VC also announced the decision to reserve a seat for students from Balochistan at every department and free education and free boarding facilities for Baloch students.
