Warid launches mobile app store

Warid Telecom has announced the launch of its mobile app store MyAppsMall for both prepaid and postpaid users allowing them to download apps for free via the internet, reported ProPakistani.

The store, accessible from the computer (myappsmall.waridtel.com) and mobile phones (apps.waridtel.com), requires users to sign up for free to download games and applications. Even though the apps are free, internet charges will apply.

The app store provides applications and games for mobiles and operating systems including Java, Symbian, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile.

Earlier in May, Research in Motion (RIM) had launched the highly-anticipated App World – the official store for applications – for BlackBerry-toting customers in Pakistan.

I don't understand why Mobile Telephone Operators are launching app store? Whats the purpose behind it. Mobilink's Banana store was the failure and Warid is also doing the same... i can download applications from OVI but why from Waird's portal??? There are many apps are free on ovi as well.
