Football: Drogba wants to emulate Beckham
Create a similar impact in the Chinese Super League as David Beckham made in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the US.
SHANGHAI:
Didier Drogba is hoping to create a similar impact in the Chinese Super League as David Beckham made in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the US. Drogba completed his transfer from European champions Chelsea to Shanghai Shenhua. The Ivorian said he was determined to develop the sport in China. “It’s a challenge,” said Drogba. “People say Chinese football is not so good. Maybe it’s a bit ambitious to take David Beckham as a reference point but people were saying it wasn’t a good move when he went to America. But look how it’s benefited American football. I want to do something similar for football in China. I want to help them to grow and develop.”
