Water scarcity: Sindh to install 500 solar tube wells

Project for supplying water to the Thar coal field and draining out saline water to develop the agriculture sector

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas presided over a meeting on Friday to review the project of installing 500 solar powered tube wells for supplying water to the Thar coal field and draining out saline water to develop the agriculture sector in the province. Out of these, 250 tube wells will be installed under the Left Bank Outfall Drain project, constructed through financial support from international agencies like World Bank and the other 250 to be installed under the Salinity Control and Reclamation Projects.  The meeting was informed that old tube wells will also be repaired and made functional. Abbas directed to ensure that all these projects will be completed during the new financial year.
