MANSEHRA:

The Anjuman Kashtkaran Mansehra demanded the arrest of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) personnel involved in opening fire on female tenants in Batta Kundi last week.

In a protest meeting held here on Thursday, the organisation condemned the action taken by the FWO against tenants who resisted the forced takeover of their land. Reportedly, the land had been occupied by over 800 tenants from various parts of the district.

Participants criticised the sale of the land – which had been occupied by tenants belonging to the Gujjar tribe for several decades – to the FWO.  Speakers at the meeting condemned the use of force by the FWO personnel which injured three female tenants. They demanded the FIR against the personnel involved – sealed under orders from the district administration – be unsealed. The speakers further demanded an end to the FWO occupation of the land.

A probe into the incident, meanwhile, has been ordered by the DCO.
