KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) general secretary, Taj Haider, was all praise for Yusuf Raza Gilani while commenting on his disqualification as Prime Minister of Pakistan by the Supreme Court. “We are grateful that PPP had Gilani as the Prime Minister and not someone like Farooq Leghari, who did not think twice before selling his soul to the establishment and stabbing his party and democracy,” said the statement issued by Haider on Thursday. According to him, the PPP’s calculations were spot on since the apex court did not even take the risk of referring the matter to the election commission as per the constitutional procedure. Haider was confident that the PPP would win back the National Assembly seat which was left vacant by Gilani’s removal, adding that the nation and its elected representatives should focus on the crucial issue of de-politicising judiciary. “The judicial system is also in need of large scale restructuring to cater to the hundreds of thousands of poor litigants whose cases have been pending for ages.”
