RASS, SAUDI ARABIA: This is with reference to Shehrbano Taseer’s article of Aug 12. At the very least, it seems that the ‘super’ elite of this country have started thinking for the country. At this stage we should just be thankful to the US for what they have done for us in terms of aid without getting into the root causes of what has happened in Pakistan and why we are we suffering at all levels. We blame the US for all that has happened in Pakistan in the last few years but the point is that it was our choice to be their ally.

A very important question regarding aid is: why are people not helping the way they did during the earthquake? Why are friends like China giving such meagre amounts in aid? I guess the answer is in large part to do with our rulers who do not seem to be much inclined at helping their compatriots. So, if they are not willing to come forward and help why should we expect those outside of Pakistan to give us donations?
