Days after the Supreme Court decided to take action against an allegedly planted television programme, Independent Media Corporation (Pvt) Limited, the parent company of Geo Television Network, moved the apex court, demanding an independent commission to investigate allegations against media persons.
The petition, filed by Advocate Akram Sheikh under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution, has nominated the federation and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) as respondents.
The petition calls for ascertaining the authenticity and genuineness of a list of media personnel, printed on a Bahria Town letterhead, who allegedly received financial favours from Malik Riaz.
The list, which was widely but anonymously circulated, includes bank accounts and other details which make it appear authentic.

A welcome move.
Those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear!!
Good chance for the media to clean itself. Other channels should also join Geo in moving SC and Government for an independent and powerful commission to carry out full investigation.
Let us ensure the press is not muzzled. There is a danger that the judiciary will become as corrupt as our politicians. There is no doubt that the chief justice son was involved in corruption. The media has done well to bring this case to the fore.
I hate Pakistani media
Very good move, there is no doubt media houses act suspiciously and there is big question mark on their paid taxes.
Good move for self accountability, if independent ombudsman board as tribune is constituted, there would be no need of any courts intervention ...............
