RAWALPINDI: The Internal Accountability Divisions (IADs) formed on the directions of the Inspector General of Punjab Police Haji Habibur Rehman have started functioning in Rawalpindi.

Headed by a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Regional Investigation Branches (RIB) in every region will look after the function of the new accountability body after analysing anonymous complaints against police officials.

The division, consisting of the SSP, an additional deputy inspector general (ADIG) and an RIB inspector, will report on all inquiries to the Lahore Investigations Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and then to the IG for action against police officials found guilty.

The IADs have been tasked with curbing corruption, custodial abuse by police, misuse of official resources and disciplinary violations.

In Rawalpindi, SSP Dr Muhammad Azam, ADIG Chaudhry Muhammad Farooq and RIB Inspector Mirza Zaman will form the probe team, according to senior Rawalpindi police officers.
