Snooker: Number 1 Asif prevails in ranking event

Beat Mohammad Asif Toba 4-3 in a tense encounter at the Jubilee Insurance 3rd Ranking Snooker Championship.

KARACHI: Pakistan number one Mohammad Asif performed when it mattered as he beat Mohammad Asif Toba 4-3 in a tense encounter at the Jubilee Insurance 3rd Ranking Snooker Championship underway at the Karachi Gymkhana. Asif, who lost his tournament opener, lost the first frame but eventually clinched the match 18-54, 64-20, 78-13, 82-01, 27-50, 42-68 and 71-45. Youngster Mohammad Majid redeemed himself as well, beating Umair Alam 4-2, while Mohammad Ishtiaq defeated Naveen Perwani 4-1. Second-seed Asjad Iqbal downed Abdul Rauf Kurd 4-1 and Mohammad Sajjad raced to a 4-0 win against Zahoor Ahmed.
