Badminton: Unheralded Murad claims top honour

KARACHI: Ali Murad won the men’s singles event at the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Badminton Championship 2012, outplaying second-seed Rizwan Azam in the final in Islamabad. Murad, who earlier defeated two-time champion Wajid Ali, continued the giant-killing act to win the epic battle 21-11 and 21-3. Meanwhile, Palwasha Bashir clinched the women’s title, defeating Sidra Hameed 21-19 and 21-4. Bashir also won the doubles title, pairing with Sara Mohmand. The duo defeated the pair of Sadia Arshad and Aniqka 21-11 and 21-4 in the final.
