Larkana Woes: Traders vent anger over power cuts

SUKKUR: Larkana’s traders vented their anger at power cuts by organising a sit-in and rally based on the call of the Federation of Trade Associations on Tuesday. Around 27 trader groups closed down their shops for half the day as a token of protest against 16-hour power cuts in the city. The leaders strongly criticised Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) for the 16-hour power cuts. The Sepco chief told them that since there is an 80 per cent recovery rate in Larkana’s industrial zone, it would only have four-hour power outages. But they railed that this was not the situation on the ground. The traders said that if the situation doesn’t improve, they will organise a complete strike in Larkana on June 19 and the city’s traders and citizens will not pay their electricity dues for this month.
