Snooker: Top-seed Asif sent packing

KARACHI: Umair Alam caused a major upset by defeating top-seed Muhammad Asif 4-3 in the opening match of the Jubilee Insurance 3rd Ranking Snooker Championship. In another shock result, Muhammad Ishtiaq downed Muhammad Sajjad 4-3. Second-seed Asjad Iqbal was given a tough time by Jawed Ansari eventually losing to him 4-3 while third-seed Sultan Muhammad cruised past Punjab's Mohammad Bilal 4-1. In other matches, Mohammad Asif Toba beat prodigy Mohammad Majid 4-1 while Vishan Gir won 4-2 against Balochistan's Abdul Rauf Kurd. Naveed Perwani defeated Zahoor Ahmed by 4-2 and Abdul Sattar had little trouble in winning 4-1 against Mohammad Akmal.
