PIA gives Rs13m for flood victims

KARACHI: A cheque of Rs13 million for the flood victims was presented by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. The amount was contributed by PIA employees who donated their one-day salary for the cause.

PIA Managing Director Aijaz Haroon presented the cheque to the prime minister and briefed him about the airline’s relief goods operation.

PIA is transporting free of charge relief goods from both its local and International networks. So far the PIA has transported 40,000 kilogrammes of relief goods to Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore. The relief goods that are being uplifted include medicines, canned food, dry milk, new clothing, bottled water and tents.

PIA scouts have also set up collection camps at Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Lahore and Faisalabad. Haroon requested NGOs and the people of Pakistan to extend a helping hand by way of contributing relief goods for the flood-affected people.

Previously for the displaced people of Swat, PIA airlifted 500,000 kilogrammes of relief goods from both domestic and international stations.
