A 13-year-old girl who was raped and forced to drink acid on Thursday identified her rapist on Saturday.
The suspect, now in police custody, denied the charge.
The girl’s father, a balloon-seller from Ghafoorabad near Sadiqabad, told The Express Tribune that his daughter had gone to a neighbourhood shop on Thursday to purchase some eatables. He said the shopkeeper abducted her and took her to a school building where he raped her.
He said that he later forced her to swallow acid and abandoned her.
A neighbour saw her and alerted the family.
The girl was taken to Shaikh Zayed Hospital.
Faisal Talib, media coordinator of Shaikh Zayed Hospital, said that the girl’s condition remained critical.
He said even if she survives that the girl will take 5 to 6 weeks to recover.
Acting RPO Ahmed Ishaq Jehangir visited the girl’s family and promised a fair investigation and prosecution.
