Mariam Pasha’s collection: Summer line has one-day exhibit

With every item under Rs5,000 the event seemed a hit.

ISLAMABAD: Girls running to their tailors with bags full of unstitched cloth have become a common summer sight, heated arguments with their tailors is another very regular spectacle. For those not so proactive about going through the ordeal of getting clothes stitched in the summer heat, one will usually find them running to exhibitions instead where ready-to-wear pieces can be bought off the rack.

Maryam Pasha, a well known designer from Islamabad, caters not only to those that want something ready-to-wear, but also those who prefer to have their unique needs and wants catered to.

Her day-long exhibition at L’atelier on Saturday had young girls bee-lining towards the colourful racks. Short kurtis, long shirts, silk blouses and even jump suits were on display, and with every item under Rs5,000, the exhibition seemed to be a hit.

The all-black formal line was interesting as it used different laces, studs, and silks to keep it subtle and simple.

Straight, loose cuts dominated most of the long shirts with slight embroidery scattered.

Pasha also played with colourful lawn and chicken by piecing them together.

Keeping the summer season in mind, Pasha used bright yellows, blues and pinks as the dominant colours. “I have used a lot of colour blocking to create trendy looks and have stuck to using local fabrics. Also, I experimented with summer linen which is soft, airy, and perfect for the hot summer,” she said.

The exhibition only lasted a day, but Pasha also caters to individual orders and many visitors could be seen taking advantage of that.

The reason, as one young girl at the exhibition put it, was that the clothes are “affordable and chic…way better than running to the tailor all the time!”
