FAISALABAD:

The Excise and Taxation Department has given the defaulters of property tax till June 15 to pay their taxes, after which the department will initiate its drive against them.

The announcement was made by Akram Ashraf Gondal, the Excise and Taxation Department director (Faisalabad Circle) on Friday. He said after the deadline the houses will be sealed without any notice.

Gondal said the defaulters’ lists would likely be ready in a week. He said the department had recovered Rs141 millions more than the year’s recovery target by May 31. In 2011, he said, Rs1.13 billion had been recovered against a target of Rs989 million (Rs471 million in property tax and Rs480 million in motor vehicles tax). He said the department expected to have collected Rs1.5 billion from the defaulters by the end of the current fiscal year.

Gondal said that 50,000 new units were brought into the property tax net during the last six months.
