Building on II Chundrigar Road catches fire

KARACHI: A building located on II Chundrigar Road, Karachi caught fire on Friday, Express News reported.

The possible cause of the fire appeared to be a short circuit, although an official statement has not been issued by the fire brigade.

According to eye witnesses from the neighbouring building, owned by Standard Chartered Bank, there were about 70 to 100 workers in the building who escaped unhurt in the incident.

The police and rescue workers helped evacuate the building as soon as the fire started.

No casualties were reported.

The fire brigades that arrived shortly after had the adequate machinery to extinguish the fire and claimed that 75 per cent of the fire was under control.

There are a number of buildings in Karachi which are un-safe and they need to be demolished. The Heritage people have declared them heritage buildings BUT then they should preserve these buildings and spend money to make them safe
