Raids: Shops selling expired food items fined

GILGIT: Food inspection officials raided various shops in Gilgit and Skardu on Thursday and fined those selling stale and expired food items. In Skardu, Municipal Magistrate Abdul Latif and Food Inspector Hussain Khan made surprise visits to various local markets and imposed over Rs25,000 spot fines to traders selling stale or expired food items. Whereas in Gilgit, the raids were conducted under the supervision of Magistrate Chiraguddin, who visited over 20 shops and bakeries at random in the town’s main market and fined a number of the shopkeepers selling stale or expired food items. He said the drive is part of the district administration’s efforts to maintain the quality of food on sale.
