Original Chashme Buddoor starred Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Baswani and Saeed Jaffrey. In the 2012 remake, however, one would see Zafar dancing and romancing Telugu star Taapsee Pannu. Besides these two actors, the film features Rishi Kapoor, Anupum Kher, Divyendu and Sidharth. The film has been shot in exotic locations such as Goa and Mauritius.
According to the grapevine, the film opens up with Zafar doing a dance number and this has been confirmed by the actor himself as he tweeted, “I had a wonderful time shooting for the movie and specially the songs in true Bollywood style.” The actor admits that when he was offered the role, he felt that it was a must to watch the original version again to pick up on the original flavour of the comic caper which continues to entertain movie enthusiasts even today.
It seems that just like Zafar impressed Dhawan with his portrayal of a young journalist Ali Hassan in Tere Bin Laden, Dhawan has also left quite an impression on Zafar with his directorial abilities. The actor is all praises for the director, who had a hit-jori with Govinda in the 1990s and together the two came up with comedy hits like Coolie no.1 and Raja Babu.
However, it was the original director Sai Paranjpye, who rewrote this film and found great similarities between Zafar and Shaikh. Paranjpye then asked Dhawan to consider Zafar for the remake. In a press conference, Paranjpye said, “Both Shaikh and Zafar are aristocratic and cultured. And there’s a certain masoomiyat (innocence) about them. When my co-writer Renuka and I began to rewrite Chashme Buddoor for contemporary times, we immediately thought of Zafar in Farooq’s role.” Music of the film has been given by Sajid-Wajid and rumour has it that Zafar has contributed to the music of the film too.
2012 has been a good year for Zafar, who was awarded the ‘Superstar of Tomorrow’ award at the Stardust for his role in the film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award, which unfortunately was snatched from him by an unknown person. This is Zafar’s third Bollywood film as the lead hero, Tere Bin Laden and London, Paris, New York being the other two.

@ stadia the christians are more good looking than you,so don't be racist.
I seen ali's movies and find him just an ordinary actor as we seen on television every day on diffrent SaaS bahu soaps.
Pakistanis has misunderstanding that he was hugely popular in india,in reality he wasn't even known by majority people in india.
looks are important but looks alone wouldn't make you star,if it was true than jugal hansraj, Rajeev kapoor would be a biggest superstar.
Actually it was Muslim nature that they get everything from others and refuse to say thanks.so bollywood gives him chance and instead of givng thanks to Hindu's of india,they keep posting arrogant comment's like how Hindu are ugly,bollywood won't work without Pakistanis.
I watched all movie by Ali Jafar but not like this acting . He is good at singing and as per me he must to stick on singing instead of acting in movie.
@Vikas: 2nd class films?you kidding me right? I thought working under YR banner would be an achievement itself,right after his first film a well known banner casts him opposite Katrina Kaif the BARBIE DOLL of Bollywood(presently highly paid actor who is pretty much in demand) and YOU saying he is signing 2nd class films?c'mon now at least give someone a due credit. I admit other than YRF no big banner approached him but hey,even the Khans of Bollywood worked with so many film makers not that each banner they worked with was huge or every film they got was a hit,so the point is in the begining everyone wants work,it becomes a quality work when one gets due recognition and he will make it to the top because he possesses everything to make it big in Bollywood,period!
@The insider
Totaly agree with you( 110%)
In fact if reports are to be beleived Amitabh, shahrukh. Hrithik, Salman, Ranbir, Akshay have started feeling insecure ever since he arrived on the scene.
Ranbir and Shahid are too small to be compared with him. He is in league with the likes of Amitabh, Dilip Kumar, Balraj Sahni Lata Mangeshkar, Satyajit Ray etc....
I am not sure what pakistanis think of him , But for the whole of India he is the God of Cinema.
@alas: totally agree with you. Most of the people who are in the industry are jealous of him because they work their life off for a chance to be seen on camera and this guy who is from an arch country pak, comes in and sweeps the audience off their feet. That's human nature.
I do believe he will make it to the top. I'm not his fan or anything. But he could go as far as Shahid kapur or Ranbir Kapur. Don't expect him to be the next Khan of bollywood. He is trying his best and he's got the skills as well.
@sadia:
"Gore rang pe na itna guroor kar, Gora rang do din me dhal jaayega"-
anyways, unlike some pakistanis who think indians dont have a big heart- your ali zafar has proved it wrong.
We welcome anyone who has talent and reap the fruits of a thriving film industry we have built ourselves with our own efforts and money.
First of all what is the need for remaking Chasme baddur? They are only fooling the people by making use of a famous movie. Then this comparison of Ali Zafar to Farooq Shaikh, I think is an insult to the great Shaikh. The producers are creating an illusion of Chasme Baddur in the minds of people, by these false statement. If everything is same, then why make it once again? They are thinking of remaking Sholay in similar line, and one day bring some guy and say he is same as the great and legendary Amjad Khan.
@sadia: Are people good looking or bad looking based on their religion? Salman Khan's mother is a Hindu and Father is a Muslim.Similarly, Saif Ali Khan's mother is Sharmali Tagore a Hindu. Has religion anything to do with performing arts? Pakistani artists are always welcomed in India. If you think that they are so good then why they cannot help and revive their own Film Industry?
All of you, believe it or not but actually the main reason of not so much success of these Pakistanis actors in Bollywood is Shiv Sena. Examples like Mohsin Khan and Ali Zafar may be in near future.
@alas: are you nuts--the actors you mentioned are Indians with the exception of Dilip Kumar who even changed his name and never utters Pakistan. Get out of your religious prejudice. Just have some self respect.
@Vikas: dude unfortuanely you hindus are not very good looking therefore muslims have to fill the vacum like salman khan, sharukk, aamir khan and then pakistani or british actors. Oh not to mention, your voice are also getting besuri thats why you need pakistani singers. Be thankful because paksitanis are keeping bollywood 1st class.
@alas: "whether you like it or not , Yusuf Khan (Duleep Kumar), Shahrukh, Amir, Salman, Saif, Imran Khan and many others have just ruled the Bollywood"
All these people are Indians. What is the connection with Ali Zafar? He is a Pakistani?
I am not saying he should not succeed. Good luck if he can. But clearly he is signing B grade flms as a lead not A grade films and is yet to give a solo hit.
A decent person from any place on earth should be able to work in India. It will benefit all parties involved. Cheers
@Vikas are your limited Indian mind showing pangs of jealousy? Majority of Indians love Ali Zafar could it be Bollywood hero fatigue? I am sure there is some jealousy as Indian producers are looking at the mediocre under talented artists and then grabbing the exotic talented stars across the border? and now we are seeing slowly as they take over the juicy role?
Unfortunately human beings are generally fraught with jealousy. I don't really watch Bollywood films but I'm glad that Ali Zafar is succeeding in Bollywood. Like in Hollywood and anywhere else you don't have to be perfect to succeed. Ali Zafar's skills are good enough. He works hard and has a pleasant personality. Also to get into A grade films you have to start from somewhere so what do you expect, Ali needs to get the experience of working on a variety of films. I'm not Indian or Pakistani by birth but its good that Pakistani actors can work in Bollywood as it bridges peace and harmony between the two countries which is very much needed for the masses to see.
@Vikas & @Rahul:
These people are acting in films and majority of people are getting entertained therefore they are in the movies in the first place. If they were not making money for movies then no body would cast them.
They are actually contributing their bit in to the Indian economy buddies so chill pill. Rahee baat Pakistan India competition ki to jinab Criciket is there for that.
Majority of the People on both sides of the border don't want spoilers like you any more!!
Ali Zafar is welcome in India :)
@alas The names which you mention , you think they are pakistani's ??. This acctually shows popularity of bollywood in pakistan . People watch bolly films so much that they consider SRK , Amitabji , Amir , Salman etc as pakistani actors . By the way ali zafar is over rated actor...
@Vikas @Hassan,what has the nationality to do with talent?if this fellow has got the talent which i feel he surely has, no one can stop him from succeeding in Bollywood.Hollywood has got actors from all over the world and their nationality seldom comes in the path of their achievements.peace...
@alas
All of the actors that you have named are not Pakistani...you are comparing apples with oranges buddy.
@Vikas: oh..I see flames of jealousy coming ....whether you like it or not , Yusuf Khan (Duleep Kumar), Shahrukh, Amir, Salman, Saif, Imran Khan and many others have just ruled the Bollywood...so why not even more ...ha ha....jaltay raho......talent speaks........
Ali Zafar will remain 2nd class actor in 2nd class bollywood movies whatever he may do...We don't want him in India...but I feel pity on him and let him earn few bucks as pakistani film industry is bankrupt
