Threats for money: ATC charges three men in extortion case

Suspects allegedly left note outside doctor’s residence on January 18 which stated their demand for Rs500,000.

KARACHI: The Anti-Terrorism Court I formally charged Tariq Hussain, Mohammad Hanif and Mohammad Aamir on Friday for their role in an extortion case.

The suspects allegedly left a note outside a doctor’s residence in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on January 18 which stated their demand for Rs500,000. The note threatened the doctor with dire consequences if the payment was not made.

The three accused were arrested several days later and have been charged with making threats to extort money, criminal intimidation and common intention, as well as under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The next hearing will be held on June 26.
