KARACHI:

Hundreds of students from the University of Karachi participated in a protest on Tuesday to express solidarity with Palestine. Organized by the Islami Jamiat-e-Talba, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, the demonstration saw both male and female students voicing their support.

Addressing the gathering, Munim Zafar Khan, the Karachi chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, stressed the significance of the event, stating, "We have gathered at Karachi University to express solidarity with the people of Gaza. The oppressed Palestinians have shocked the whole world through their sacrifices. Palestinians have been fighting for their rights for 77 years, which includes the whole world."

Khan highlighted the paradox of freedom of expression, noting, "On one hand they talk about freedom of expression and on the other hand show-cause notices have been issued to the students who expressed solidarity with Palestine in America. Students are peaceful… they have resisted the oppressor."

Khan further pointed out the challenges faced by students in the United States, stating, "Students in the United States have set up camps in the university while they are being threatened to demolish the camp."

Emphasizing the universal nature of the struggle, he stated, "The aim of this struggle is to give freedom to Palestine. As Muslims, we all should join this struggle, not just the University of Karachi, but students from every faculty should show solidarity."

During the protest, participants expressed their indignation by raising Palestinian flags and chanting slogans against Israel.
