Deadline: Punjab policemen given 30 days to shape up

IG said all policemen have been directed to reduce the size of their waists to 38 inches.

The Punjab police officials have been given 30 days to shape up. Or else they will not be allowed to carry out field jobs, said Punjab police chief Haji Habibur Rehman in a press conference on Thursday.


The IG said all policemen have been directed to reduce the size of their waists to 38 inches. The IGP said the department is also considering changing the police uniform to improve the Punjab police’s image in the public eye. The department is also training policemen to be civilised and accommodative towards complainants, he added.

The IGP said 350 policemen from high and low ranks had been selected from all across Punjab to form internal accountability cells. These policemen have clean background and have been assigned to watch the performance of their colleagues silently and report any wrongdoing to the high-ups, he added.

The IG said that Punjab government has decided to recruit 10,000 police constables to meet the shortage of personnel in the department.
