Beggars — all of us

The military should have bought a fleet of helicopters and planes; all they have are trucks, cars and people on foot.

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to your reports on the floods. The very low level of donations the PPP has received points to the extent of faith ordinary people have in the present government. However, it isn’t only the PPP. We have a large army and we find that the number of helicopters being used in relief efforts is not even close to what is needed given the scale of the devastation. It is clear that we haven’t learnt anything from the 2005 earthquake. The military should have bought a fleet of helicopters and planes; all they have are trucks, cars and people on foot.

I appeal to foreign governments not to donate anything. Let us all drown in all our own faults. The aid won’t reach us anyway. I am sick and tired of Pakistan begging for money because we are incompetent to generate it ourselves. I am known as a poor man and a beggar when I travel outside of my country, false pride reduced to dust and shame.
