Eighteen-year-old Khursheed, a resident of the Sohan area, was a student at the Islamabad Model College for Boys, the police said. Khursheed had apparently refused to take some entry tests, on which his father had scolded him.
Feeling dejected, the teenager locked himself up in a room and shot himself in the head with his father’s pistol.
Khursheed’s body has been shifted to a hospital, but his family have refused to have a postmortem done.
In a similar incident on Sunday, 17-year-old Shan from Gharibabad swallowed poison after his parents stopped him from spending time with his friends, while a seventh grader in Abbottabad also ended his life on being forced to return to his hostel, where he was allegedly tortured by the staff.
Another 13-year-old Karachi student committed suicide out of fear of his parents as he perhaps failed at school.

ASSALAMO ALAIKUM to all of you I'm maryam and I'm sociologist according to me in general its happening because off 1-alienation 2-emotionality 3-alot of pressure from school and parents 4-rais deprassion during enter in tumultuous adolescent year 2-generation gap parents totally doesn't understand their child behavior and we don't face and accept failure we take it as ego and shameful thing that's why suicide is becoming routine and also media is most responsible for increasing rate of suicide To solve it we have to study our culture. be positive accept failures parents and school staff must not forced children to do anything rather they have to look his own interest and enhance his/her talent understand medically changes during specific age thanks.
no one cares. because they are far to busy destroying mosques and other worship places. why would they bother huh!!
Here is a problem with the school system which we have in Pakistan. Traditional teaching Methodologies should now be changed, Punishment can never be effective in changing behavior.I as a student of Psychology will stress upon the teachers and Parents training Programs. Educational Psychologists should be hire by institutions to whom student should consult whenever they feel depression/ maladjustment. All the cases listed in that news are of those who were victims of severe depression, and were not given treatment. Secondly, religious feed should be given to the adolescents, they should be trained to cope with ups and downs of life, they should be trained to face realities, and should not be disappointed on little problems.
Media is not responsible. How can it be responsible? the media is only reporting such incidents. These incidents highlight the disconnection students have with the academia and their parents. If parents and schools were not so hard on children they would not have to resort to such extreme measures. Instead of blaming the media, people should blame the society. Pakistani society is a very mentally frustrated and warped society. No wonder the poor children are committing suicides. They are tired and frustrated due to a variety of reasons and want escape.
These incidents are neither isolated nor individual. These are reflections of a decaying society, where the first thing that comes to mind at the sight of a challenge is finding an escape route. We have forgotten how to fight fair and in situations like these... resolve loses its meaning and at points life becomes too hard to live. Alas... after all Allah blessed us with, we are at the brink of self destruction.
I think media is also responsible for such accidents. They should be careful how they publish news.. kids watch tv all the time. and the main thing is from where they do get the idea to end their life like this? I was also forced for grades by my parents and teachers but never thought of committing suicide..like in case of Shan, parents do have a right to watch for children activities.. just because your parents stop you from something isn't reasonable to commit suicide.
So parents who abuse their kids and the teachers who are much worse than the parents are not to blame but the media? Because it shares their story and gives these kids a voice?
You guys really think that children will kill themselves to feel special? I 'll say this:media shouldn't glamorize suicide but at the same time they should be spread awareness and teach these abusive parents what it takes to be a parent.
Over population!
Population stops appreciating its younger generation and younger generation feels let down for no fault of thier's.
The Islamabad kid's suicide seems to have had a domino effect. Really, a shame! One thing I have learned in the West is that it is more important to be a good human and okay to fail in school. Math is my favourite subject yet I failed it once, I took it again and got the highest marks in that class.
As others pointed out the electronic media is responsible for these deaths. Making a suicide a nation news, and then broadcasting sensational and emotional coverage of every second of the tragedy is bound to affect some raw minds. An extreme example of this is one channel read out the entire suicide note of the little boy in Abbottabad, in a voice over by another child/woman in a highly dramatized breaking/crying voice, with melancholy music in the background. It is about time some sense prevails and these news channels are monitored for the damage they are causing to the society.
in a week the ratio of suicides has been increaseed rapidly and media is the reason of this factor. they telecast the news just like doing a very good social work.
Bottom line is these kids felt there was no other option and were desperate for a way out. If parents and society don't support their children there will be devastating cases like these. The youth of today is the future so we should help each other for a better future.
i have heard that copycat suicides are fuelled by media coverage of such incidents....so i request all the media channels not to widely publicize suicides.. at the very least they shouldnt broadcast the last entries in their diaries :@
people really need to understand that life is more than your grades or being scolded by your father, the real demons rest outside.
What is happening in this country? This is fourth incident of its kind. Does anyone care?
I think media is the most responsible factor for such incidents,Like Media shows like hero when a child st him self on fire after he failed to promoted to next class, Pakistani electronic media shown his funeral just like a hero or martyred, now from that onward such shocking incidents taking place every day. media should stop such incident to promote such criminal acts.
