‘Honour’ crime: Man kills wife, dumps body in canal

Police said he beat her with an iron rod and injured her head.

RAHIM YAR KHAN: A woman died after being allegedly beaten by her husband on Tuesday. Police said Fida Hussain, a resident of Nazar Mohammad Jhalan, beat his wife, Aasiya, over suspicions of having an illict affair with a neighbour. They said he beat her with an iron rod and injured her head. They said despite a head injury, he continued to beat her so that she died on the spot. He then abandoned the body in the canal, where some passers-by saw him and informed the police. By the time police arrived, Fida had fled. The body was taken to a hospital, from where it was sent for a post-mortem examination. Fida’s brother, Abid Hussain, told The Express Tribune that Fida married Aasiya 16 years ago. He said he had suspected her of having an affair and often beat her. Bohang Station House Officer Mohammad Zia said an FIR had been registered against the accused. He said the police were looking for him.
