Pakistani actor and former “Bigg Boss” contestant Veena Malik has started to work on the Kannada version of The Dirty Picture, saying the film is packed with glamour and sentiments that will allow her to show her talent.
The Kannada version is also titled The Dirty Picture. It is produced by Venkatappa and directed by Trishul. “I am quite excited to be part of the film. I have heard the story and it looks quite interesting,” said Malik who recently attended the promo and photo shoot of the movie.
“As the lead heroine, I will get a lot of opportunity to perform. The director has packaged the film very well with glamour, sentiments and all other ingredients,” says the actor whose latest Bollywood venture is Deepak Bali’s film titled Daal Me Kaala Hai.
Producer Venkatappa’s son Akshay will play the male lead in the movie and the shooting will start soon. Venkatappa said that he will not face any date issues with Malik as all the problems relating to her visa have now been cleared.
Starring Vidya Balan, the Hindi version was an unofficial biopic on southern sex symbol Silk Smitha. It was a runaway success at the box office and won Balan her first National Award.
Ekta Kapoor, who produced The Dirty Picture in Hindi under her banner Balaji Telefilms, is against the same title being used by Venkatappa. Trishuli, however, says his story is different. “I have written a fresh story and it has a lot of native elements that is peculiar to Karnataka. But I thought the title, The Dirty Picture, will suit the story very well.

Well...she has to show whatever she has not show till date....but what ever she does...she will be a second class actor of second class films. I don't mind if she makes some money as Pakistani film industry is bankrupt she they seek job in india
@narayana murthy: Watch Khuda ke Liye and Bol. Neither resembles a cheesy Bollywood flick, both excellent movies!
Veena's got guts and will suit the role perfectly. I would say, Kannada Film industry after a long time is taking a bold step.
I consider Veena as an Indian and see no reason why we should doubt her acting talents.
another upcoming bad surprise of VM.....
If this movie sells it won't be because of the movie, as its already been done. It'll be because of VM. So the title of this piece needs to be reversed.
and why not?
There are better national and international award winning actresses in Kannada. I don't know why Veena was taken.
This girl looks not so good and obviously cannot act.
And I don't understand why Kannada filmmakers who are at the top when it comes to making sensible art films are actually following Tamil/Telugu industry and squandering money on such films. Only fools believe that big money makes good films. In fact all the greatest films in the history are made on medium to low budget.
80 lakhs being spent on a talentless actress is, in fact, a disaster.
Kannada films should learn from Iranian cinema. Also take leads from great Kannada filmmakers like M S Satyu/Kasaravalli/Karnad, than blindly following stupid commercial film formula. Commercial films are not art.
Ohh and Pakistan will also do wonderfully well, if they took a lead from these filmmakers than blindly follow the Bollywood.
Also from Bangalore, A local tabloid had published a report in their filmy column that she is paid Rs 80 lakh to act in the movie. the highest so far for a Kannada movie heroine. Considering the fact that Kannada film industry comes a poor third compared to its more envious Telugu and Tamil film industries, Not a bad deal I would say. All the best Miss... Rgds P
Is it kannada and not tamil? hmmm,,, Interesting. :)
Veena is always top priority of ET
