Around 50 passengers were on board when the bus came under attack on National Highway at Rinn Shakh, near Qazi Ahmed Taluka of Shaheed Benazirabad district.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sardar Khan Chandio said that the Sindhu Desh Liberation Army had claimed responsibility for the attack.
One body was shifted to Peoples Medical College Hospital in Shaheed Benazirabad district, while the remaining six were moved to Taluka Hospital, Qazi Ahmed.
The second driver of the bus, Lal Khan, told the media that a passenger had gotten on the bus from Sakrand. He had asked the driver to pull over at Rinn Shakh where his brother was waiting to get on the bus.
“When the bus stopped, four armed men got on the bus and opened fire and later fled on two motorbikes,” Khan said.
Five persons died on the spot, while two passed away at the hospital.
The deceased were identified as Haji Abdul Ghaffar Pathan (driver), Shahzad Hassan and Muhammad Makrab from Attock, Sameeullah Khan from Mianwali, Gulreb Khan from Swabi, Abdul Majeed and Arsalan Majeed from Taxila.
One deceased could not be identified, while Qair, Tahir Ali and Ameer Ali were among the injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers raised slogans that they had taken revenge for an attack on the Awami Tehreek rally in Karachi.
Other eyewitnesses quoted that the assailants had said that the attack was revenge for the murder of Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) leader Muzaffar Bhutto, whose body was found from Hyderabad after 15 months of his disappearance.
However, the bus cleaner, Nadeem Khan, said the attackers did not discriminate on if the victims were Sindhis or non-Sindhis. “They didn’t ask about anyone’s ethnicity. They climbed up and opened fire and fled while raising slogans.”
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Police Hyderabad Sanaullah Abbassi, who reached the site of the attack, told the media that at least 25 bullet shells were seen around the bus.
“The attackers fired inside and from outside the bus.”
The DIG said the police could not say whether automatic weapons were used in the incident as the shells were still being collected.
The passengers who escaped the attack were shifted to a safe place, which the police authorities declined to reveal.

Wow....What a peace of information with Police and the only one.
What !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! noboy here to blame MQM for this yet ?
This is what happens when the people, the media, the politicians, the government, the law enforcement agencies and even the judiciary continue to pay no heed and ignore NRO murder/criminal and those who took refuge under the NRO for murder/criminal cases; PPP took refuge under the NRO for corruption cases, and they are the second biggest beneficiaries of the NRO -So if you will let the murderers and criminal go, others will rise without fear of being held accountable!
I am wondering and waiting for IK blame on PMLN on this as well!!!
what a shame.
My beautiful country is in trouble and the ones responsible for the security are either busy making plots or taking bribes. Just see this statement "The DIG said the police could not say whether automatic weapons were used in the incident as the shells were still being collected", this guy should be told that just ask the victims and they can tell you if these were automatics, and that , as if it is going to make much of a difference.
Would'nt be surprised if this too is blamed on Punjab.
It's unfortunate and very sad incident. May they rest in peace. It seems an effort to create ethnic tension in Pakistan. Sindhis always have very amical and strong relations with Pushtoons brothers. Those involved in this crime and in Karachi must be exposed. Seems same forces r behind these incidents who were responsible in khi. With unity, the violent forces can be defeated.
@SH - stop maing sweeping statements !! for once please start saying innocent Pakistanis were killed. These were peaceful citizens (probably not rich otherwise wouldnt be taking bus for a long ride) and most probably hardworking people from small towns of Pakistan comign to Karachi for work. What does that have to do with Mohajir or anti-Mohajir.....!
Shocking! Ethnic fascist groups are no different from taliban
really shocking
Very sad and my condolences to all aggrieved families. I don't believe this shameful act can be a revenge against killings of awami tahreek workers because that killing is allegedly done on instructions of MQM and the passengers of this bus were overwhelmingly from KPK. This seems to me a part of some big game and a conspiracy to create gulf between local population and Pukhtun people.
I think we are heading into an anarchy! Not a day goes by without senseless killing of innocents. We should seriously consider taking all the arms away from the people!
govt when dont your leave your seats when you can not protect. Pls everyone stand for a change
Sindh Government is a such a massive failure! It is sooo annoying! Shame on them!!
pathetic . . . .
Calm before the storm....
May Allah rest the souls of all victims in peace.
All human beings are respectable irrespective of origin, ethnicity, sect or cast. So we should respect each other. We should condemn such acts/ activities in any province.
The only solution for such problems is to literate the people and provide justice to all. As good education system teaches patience and tolerance that is lacking in out society.
It is conspiracy to malign peaceful struggle of Sindhis and make an excuse to justify genocide of Sindhis in Karachi and everywhere in coming days.
Qaim Ali shah has failed in preventing the loss of innocent lives. Zardari visiting UK to take care of his business. Bilawal is keenly looking after Pak-US relations in US perhaps to finalize the DEAL on reopening of the NATO supply route. Gilani is busy celebrating the so called "Victory of Democracy". Res all of us are running for our lives. Well done PPP.
and so it begins.......................
the poor laborers who were going to their village in khyber-pakhtunkhwa didn't know that their lives would be cut short so suddenly.these ppl were returning to their homes in KPK but became victims of ethnic terrorism. The ppl from KPK have done a lot of work over the decades in the construction industry to builed homes and tall buildings, they only came to karachi to find work and were going back to their village in KPK before they were stopped and killed in interior sindh.
so the mohajirs have been killed now!
and so it begins . . . . . . .
